Not downplaying the drought but the reason the dust bowl was so bad was so much prairie had been plowed under when the drought and depression hit and no crops planrted it was the perfect storm for the dust bowl. I remember as a child growing up in west Tx in the fifties seeing what looked like storm blowing in but it was simply a dust cloud covering miles.
 
poor ag practices made for the 'dust bowl' - however if the prairie had never seen a plow, it would have been vast expanses of dead grasses.
regions of the globe, and the entire globe, have seen irregular - but repeated - droughts and floods.
matter of documented history and geological records.
for progressives demanding to follow the science, they're doing a pretty bad job of it.....
