  2. No horseplay by the pool
  3. ...Don't spit into the wind, Don't pull on Superman's cape, don't tug on the mask of the ol' lone ranger and you don't mess aroung with Jim...

Unless your name is Slim.

I think I have that 8 track around here somewhere.
Regardless, it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

What the heck! I just went over there to reply to a guy in the "build-it yourself" area and I've apparently been banned! I tried other areas as well, and I only get sent back to my "home" page. I tried to PM a moderator, but I can't PM anyone. I have to wonder what in the hell I could have possibly have done.

Anybody care to venture a guess? Feel free to look at the posts I've made there in the last couple of days. I don't think I've said anything that could even remotely be considered something that should get me banned. I'm really confused. All I can think is that this particular thread here got me banned there. There again, I don't see anything I've written here that could be taken as negative. Man, am I ever confused.

Oh well, I'll just continue to be an "undesirable jerk" here...

Dargo, I sure didn't find anything you've wrote offensive. Granted, I'm ussually a little oblivious to such things, but you'd think it should be something pretty blatent to warrant such action. And with no notification or reason?:(

Dargo,

Perhaps "do do do do do do do" did it for them.

and yes.. I would bet what you post here got you banned over there. I am betting soundguy is next. ;-)

Chris, I've noticed a bit of self editing going on :yum:

It is possible to be critical of TBN and be a member there, and also be a member here. My suggestion, simply because this is a public place, is for you to level objective criticism when it is due. Those folks seem to cause a lot of hard feelings over there with the way they 'moderate' and sometimes moderation is necessary. They have policies that they believe should be upheld and I do agree with many of those policies for THEIR website but I don't think they should apply to this website.

Be careful of what you say. Some things :fart2: a bit too much for them to hear if you say them here they will be heard over there.

Uh, thanks whoever you are... I can now post there again. I just wanna know what I did.

Most systems will allow you to ban people for specific periods of time up to and including permanently. My guess is that a one day ban is what you were given. I call that punitive actions just to show someone that you can ban them, not that there ever is a question about it in anyone's mind. I see them trying overly enthusiastically to be politically correct in every fashion and every way that they can. They must feel this need because of the advertisers $$$$. Problem is that when a site becomes nothing but plain vanilla, it is boring and the advertisers also realize that boring sites don't bring in the people that you are spending your advertising $$$$ for. Consequently, after a while you will see the advertising $$$ dry up. I have seen this happen before on other sites that had heavy advertising $$$$ pouring into them, so the moderators didn't allow any expression of dissent about the advertisers products. Then some of people kept pouring on the praise, until it looked like a bunch of paid endorsements. Without the advertising $$$ the site eventually went dark because of lack of interest of the remaining members. No different than a good restaurant that has good food and then sells out to new owners. The food quality goes down, and the customers stop coming. It doesn't take a genius to see that happening over there, with the amount of misinformation in abundance and many of the more intelligent and experienced posters leaving. This site is a good example of how a site can grow when there is freedom to post information without having to weigh each and every word to be certain that your post won't be deleted and you membership in jeopardy. We already have what is rapidly becoming the worlds most informative snow track forum, thanks to Bob's efforts and the efforts of the members that participate actively in that forum.

Actually Junk, THIS is THE MOST ACTIVE snowcat forum on the internet. And it is proof that these forums are valid and not a competitor to TBN. The folks at TBN seem to be more worried about us than we are about them.

Proof that we are viable is that there are several SNOWCAT forums out there, most get less than 1 new post each day. Each is much older than our place here. Some get a post or two each week. Some go for months without a post. Our site here is about 70% Snow Trac owners, 30% Kristi/LMC-Thiokol owners and on a bad day gets a handful of posts, on a good day gets dozens. We also regularly have a few registered snowcat owners on the forum at any given time and several members have migrated to the general forums too.

One thing we DON'T have here is a good way to index our topics and pages. It would be nice to have a Snow Trac homepage that I could edit and provide hotlinks to the forum threads, but it would also provide a place to upload the brochures, manuals, etc. Doc was very good to me and gave me an intro page, but it is difficult for me to edit. I think I need to learn more about HTML code.

There is a good discussion site dedicted to "snow groomers" but that is really dominated by people who groom snowmobile trails with specialized snowcats. Even that site, as good as it is, gets less than 1/2 the number of posts and new threads as we see here. The folks at that site are nice folks, but I get the impression they tolerate 'recreational' snowcat owners and that we are actually intruding in their 'grooming' forum. I visit the site daily, its a good site, but no question that I am an 'outsider' there.

As a newbie, I will tell you why I am here.:drink: Every now and then we need to be able to poke each other in the eye with a dull stick (in jest) to get our minds and eyes open to other views without reprecussions. :argueing: Viable great ideas and thoughts come from open free speech not repressed and controlled derogatories. As control of speech is exerted all thoughts, ideas and views will become one. This is not desirable if you want a viable, productive, and creative society (or forum) that will survive.

I just took a cruise over to the dark side and was reading the forums..... Seems like my thoughts of the advertising $$$$$ is getting to many of their member also. Many are commenting that they are no longer visiting as often since the advertising is interfering with their viewing.... Read more here..... As usual, MikePA, being the politically correct person that he is, closed the thread before any more negative comments could be made....

Reading that thread brings something to mind. Isn't there some saying about the only difference between a brown noser and a shit head is depth perception...?:yum:

Brent-
I think Dargo logged on to TBN in your name and made some doggie porn joke just to shake you up a little. After all, you had such a cushy week last week!

The end of that thread is very interesting. It shows how two different people can say essentially the same thing (MikePA and Hakim), but in completely different ways. Hakim states why the ads are there and poses possible solutions to the problem while MikePA comes off looking like a real ass. Oh, by the way, if any of you over at TBN don't like my comments, then ban me and shove it!:moon: By the way, my member name is

Yep.. I was in the process of leaving an post here.. don't even remember what it was.. probbaly a bit further rant on the subject of moderating when i heard dargo got banned. I figured it was best to er. self-edit my posts for the time being... as there were plenty of threads and links I needed to save on TBN, in case the 'other shoe' fell so to speak.

That was a bit of a wake up call.. seeing that people can be banned at TBN for what they do on a completely different website:fart2: I think enough said on that point...

I thought you might like the 'duck and run' tactic....:pat:

Re: double standard quotient at TBN getting higher

Today is a very black day if we, the members of ForumsForums, are going to be censoring our words because what we say here will effect our membership there. I was banned, and for no good reason. As far as I am concerned, they can go to HELL!!!! The whole bunch of them. That crap might fly half the world away, but not here in the USA. To give into tyrants is wrong. Don't let your words be held hostage. Speak your mind and let the world know that censorship of any kind is wrong. Even self imposed censorship.

Re: double standard quotient at TBN getting higher

No one stiring the pot today? I'm kinda depressed.. I dind't have any reply notifications from here today? You guys going straight on me?

Re: double standard quotient at TBN getting higher

Hey Chris,
We're here ....just not dwelling on the other sites issues. We could sure use a few old tractor threads ....or anything else you feel like talking about. Jump right in, the waters fine!

Greg

I'm here. I have a new thread going over there about a problem that I am having with the transmission on my BX. I slipped in under the radar by using an old user name that I had from 01. Sure is nice to be able to post without them realizing that it is the old Junkman.:thumb:

Junk, what do you say that we replace part of the "old Junkman" with some bionic parts to create a "new Junkman"? I am sure Mith has some angle bar stock lying around and Jim R can try out his new welder. Replace some of those shriveled parts that are now useless. What do you say guys?

Well it seems to me that BOTH sites are so different that they can co-exist in peace. BUT it also seems that the policies that TBN seems to be enforcing are actually driving people to this site.

I still post over there from time to time. Posted a few times in the past 2 days. But I'm not over there to make them angry and I don't think most of the other members here do that either. But it does seem obvious that many people are really tired of the lack of real opinion, lack of hard fact, and the constant repeating of the same material. Add to that the guys out there like "Highbeam" and "Bird" who seem to offer advice that is often questionable & sometimes dangerous and you can see why so many people are migrating to other sites.

The main reason TBN doesn't like this site is because of Junkman. Its that damn cat in the bikini photo that he posted over there. They banned him and said the photo was naughty. He posted it here so now TBN claims this site is not "family friendly" . . . yet TBN allows links to sites that make the language on this site look absolutely tame. Some of the welding forums you can link to on TBN make me blush like a little girl!

Does this mean we are the Ying to their yang?:yum: or are we the anti-tbn?

I have noticed that Bird has a comment for everything - sort of like that damned mailman <cliff> on Cheers:fart2: You couldn't shut him up if you sewed his mouth shut and broke both fingers:yum:

Cliff was more entertaining and definitely more intelligent.
