Dead reptile in my car

I know what a dead mouse smells like. This ain't it. Think I'm going to need to dig a big hole and bury the thing.

I've vacuumed and given it 2 hours of ozone machine. Today I put 2 packages of 'Damp-Rid' in it thinking the dead thing needs to dry out.

I bought 10 pounds of baking soda.

It's so bad that if you open the door to close a window, the smell sticks with you for hours. Seriously wishing I had a big field.

Anyone got any great and amazing and affordable ideas ?

Sorry no ideas but .... I remember the Seinfeld episode when Jerry's car had a horrible odor that would stick with you after leaving the car. His solution was to trade it in on another car.

I would need to find a car buyer who completely lost their sense of smell.

Thought about that many times as a couple other cars smell like mouse. At least mouse is easier to hide.

Sounds like your going to have to start doing a dissasemble job to find the culprit .I'd start looking at the cabin filter area.......no fun....
That's what I'm thinking as well.

@Junkman turned me on to this product years ago that works well but at today's prices, I don't think I would recommend it. It used to be $4/tub, now it's over $22. Maybe you can find something similar (at a reasonable price).

Thanks. Maybe when it's really cold out, the smell will quit !
I think it's in the HVAC. Driver's side .I don't even Want to find it !!!! except to make the smell stop... pretty conflicted , there... just how grossed out do I want to be ??? Definately need a mask ! I'm going to wait for it to dry out.

Have the HVAC ripped out of 2 other vehicles because of mice.

I got some of that air sponge stuff at NAPA today for $8.00 . I think it said $18 on the shelf but my buddy said it was the wrong label. I get a fleet discount :)

When I was in college we stuffed a handful of White Castle hamburgers with extra onions into the heater vent of a fraternity brother's car.

We bought a UVA lamp during Covid. It was to sanitize the cabs of equipment in case the virus was as bad as many believed.
I did use it on a parked vehical that the mice had gotten into. After cleaning up the mess, 20 minutes of UVA that creates ozone
in the air did a nice job of eliminating the smell.
Might help with your situation. If you can find the source and get it out of the car.

@pixie as far of as mask regular dust mask with vicks smeared in the nose section gets us at the firehouse past stinky situations, its unbelievable effective so you can work in it when its not freezing out.

Kirk, I have a professional ozone generator. It won't help until it drys. Supposed to only need 5 minutes in a car. 2 hours made no difference.

Tommu, I've used the Vicks inside my silicone face mask cleaning raccoon mess out of confined spaces. Silicone mask is pretty effective by it's self.
