Close Call This Evening?

It that unit is 7 years old, it is probably built to higher standards than the typical tract home.
Be sure and give that dog a couple of thank you hugs.
I have, over and over again. She's sitting at my feet now.
Thanks again Jimbo.. I'll let you guys know what I hear after I call the manufacturer tomorrow, and what the serviceman says after he comes to check things out.

Good for Gretchen!    She is indeed a hero.
I'm glad it all turned out as it did, that could have been disastrous for sure. Thanks to Gretchen you now know your engineer neighbor a little better. It's all good!!!!! :tiphat:

Glad it worked out for You & your lil friend PG , Its very common for the lil critters to sense something wrong & do their best to warn You , sadlly some folks dont pay attention to them & the outcome is far worse in a lot of cases .

BTW outlets do go bad , The more they are used the connections inside where the prongs go into become weak causing the plug to not fit as tight causing it to get warm . The longer it goes & the hotter it gets the inside brass that the wire screw goes into also shrinks making the wire a loose connection causing the cover to turn yellow & sometimes smoke . I,m betting you caught it right before it tripped the breaker .

A good thing to remember when plugging things in , if the plug doesnt seem to fit tight , or you have a problem plugging it in or unplugging it , its time for that outlet to be replaced . Same thing goes with light switches , If it doesn,t feel right it problly isn,t .

That's what they told me.
Oh, and I am getting refunded for the fan. ;)

Glad you and the dog are now safe.

Like has already been mentioned, I would bet it was the outlet and not the fan. The fan could not have been drawing more than the rating of the breaker, unless the motor was locked up. The breaker would not have necessarily picked that up and kicked off. It is there for over-current protection only.
The brand new houses around here have Arc Fault Breakers installed. That "should" have detected it and kicked off. If you're still worried about any other circuits, you could have them installed for your peace if mind.

Just have a friend pull out the plug-in and inspect the wires.
Flip the breaker of/on a few times in case it had dust in it.
We used to go around and overload a circuit, about twenty percent of the circuit breakers failed.
