Might as well start a thread on the AMX. Although I won’t get to it for a while, I am gathering parts.
On eBay I found the pieces of the interior that are damaged that are not reproduced.
Now I just need the seat cover and a carpet kit.

One of my favorite cars that I never owned. There was a guy in my town with an orange one when I had my GM rides. There also was an old retired guy with a blue Rebel that i worked on. It was a pretty cool car too.

There must be an AMX forum out there with people selling good parts, maybe nos parts.

AMC sponsored some of those back in 1968. I was running a big block Camaro and those factory sponsored cars were badass. That will make a good resurrection project. Good luck!!!!!

When I was in high school my dad had a car lot, I thrashed them all, one was an Amx with the 390 and 4 speed. Always wanted one since.

You must be referring to the AMX super stock cars made to compete with the dodge hemi cars

Yep, those are the ones. Back then Sox & Martin were the best. I ran s/s with my big block Camaro. I did hold my class record at the old strip South of Houston. Great times!!!!

My Brother had an AMX for many, many years. He wouldn't part with it for anything. But, as a daily driver, it started to come apart beyond his ability or budget to keep. Sad day when he sold it.

One of those sold here near me. If I remember the story correctly it was called the sheriff of Nottingham, or something like that.
Also, I think there were 6 cars that the factory sponsored. Those 390 CID engines were no joke either.
AMX cars were also pretty respected in a couple of series of road racing as well.

The plan is to go all Indy, aluminum block, heads rockers and intake. With there block and a stroker crank, a 500 ci small block is possible, along with there top end and a mechanical roller cam and 13:1 compression with mechanical fuel injection on e85 thats available everywhere here and is much cheaper than gas makes an easy 800 hp @ around 7000 rpm.

All in somewhere around 20k then around 5k on a transmission then another? For a back braced 9” ford rearend.

How about blowing the budget to smithereens?
You can get a 1000hp lsx ( I believe at 7000 rpm) from Nelson for around 30k. It'll last a lot longer than a high compression engine. My kid might be able to get it a bit cheaper.
And my kid has a jig set up to build 9" housings. He's made quite a few. $4k. He can set it up for the usual 4 link as shown or can set it up for carbon leafs, which ride nice.

You may wanna check with Nelson on other options. He is very very reasonable. It would be difficult to do a build like he does for much less.
He's in Chatsworth.

That’s nice fabrication on that rear housing,Thanks for the info but I want it to be all AMC, I know using all Indy stuff isn’t AMC either but at least it’s based on AMC 401.the rearend I will likely find on racing junk and make a few mounting modifications if I can find one the right flange to flange measurement. Plus building the engine myself is something I like to do. I have a local guy for the transmission that I have used before and stands behind his work, even if you are abusing it, he built a 904 for me I put in behind a stroker small block 408” I shifted into second at 6500 and lost all forward gears, still had reverse and backed up a mile or so to get home. He came and got the car fixed the transmission ( exploded planetary gears ) and brought it back, no charge.

Got it.
Take a look at the carbon leaf springs for the car. Nicer ride than 4 link with coil overs.
I have them in my old 72 T/A car. Made a huge difference in ride and lack of noise. I had no idea of how much noise steel leaf spring make. I added them when I went to 4 wheel disc brakes.

With 800hp on tap, I likely will switch over to either a 4 link or a truck arm suspension in the rear. Leaf springs are going to wheel hop and be difficult to tune for a straight launch. Traction bars help but are a bandaid.

No! Look at the carbon leafs with sliders!
Many many drag racers are switching over.
I'm talking cars with 1500 hp or more.
Dig in dude. Times are a changing!
A couple from a quick search...

Yes that is a cool twist on a spring set up, I like the idea of more stock appearing and simple. I guess it’s the next generation from what I use to. I’m sure the design was born from some class rules where you have to use a leaf spring suspension and someone made it work.
