Due to the bird flu, eggs have increased in prices pretty dramatically.

Apparently security needs to keep pace with the new value.

100,000 eggs were stolen from a trailer in Pennsylvania, police say

The theft of approximately 100,000 eggs from the back of a distribution trailer in central Pennsylvania is under investigation, authorities say, as the grocery staple has become scarce in some areas due to an avian flu outbreak and prices are reaching near-record highs.
The eggs, worth an estimated $40,000, were stolen from egg producers Pete & Gerry’s Organics in Greencastle Saturday night, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police.
“Pete & Gerry’s is aware of a recent incident in Franklin County, Pennsylvania and we are actively working with local law enforcement to investigate,” the company said in a statement to CNN Tuesday.
“We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible. Due to the ongoing investigation we cannot comment any further on this matter,” the statement said. . . .

Eggs are a great source for good cholesterol. Aids in the production of Testosterone.
Our household consumes four to six eggs, at least, every day.
Crumpy has a friend at work with free range chickens.
We have paid $5.00 a dozen for the last two years.
Still do. The guy doesn't want more, we are fine
Cheaper at the grocer but not the same.
And right now Grade A large are $6.00
So yes, we are doing fine.

Have my own chickens, we seem to go in spurts on how many we eat, I could eat them every day. Have some cooling right now to pickle tonight. Have sold extras in the past but now mostly trade them for others goods like jam etc or for watching the kids, one sister buys the occasional bag of feed for eggs. Can’t beat fresh eggs, especially in the summer when they are eating grass and bugs.

We get ours from the local feed store at $4/doz. Double yolk eggs sell for $5/doz. The pricing doesn't make sense to me either. We use both. There is no comparison to store bought eggs.
Quite a few of our neighbors raise hens and back during Covid they were our main suppliers. They still are only now we get them through the feed store.

I got these today at Chief supermarket for $5.49 a dozen.
Eggland's Best were about the same price.
However, the store brand Crystal Spring were over $7/ actually $7.99

Ever see a "free range" production facility?
Typical chicken barn. Housing many thousands of birds. A couple does to the outside. Outside. A fence area of a few hundred square feet. The birds can come and go as they please. There maybe 25 birds outside. The rest stay inside with their buddies. It's a joke.

I guess the reason I bought eggs today and looked at the store prices in comparison was because there isn't a big difference in what I can get, and what I got.
There are people going nuts over the prices, especially on "foodie forums". 🙄
If I want eggs, I'll buy them no matter the cost at the moment.
A dozen eggs can stretch for many meals.

I just hope Trump and crew get in finding the cure. This all blew up during Biden years and it seems nothing was accomplished, other than killing millions and millions of birds.
I have to wonder if they're are ties of this to Wuhan.

You may be on to something.
US funded Gain of function research in China
Surprised???
Nope.

BTW, A $170,000 grant to produce a statue in tribute of Dr Fauci has been cancelled by our President Trump.

We have chickens, with all the crap the wife buys for them, a dozen costs more than the store. We can’t free range because of, hawks, coyotes, bobcats and feral cats.
Yes, if anyone thinks they are expensive to buy in the store should try raising some themselves! Mine are more of a hobby/pet with the benefit of eggs, but boy are they ever good!
