I scanned my computer with Ad-Aware and it flagged a "Critical Object" which it identified as a tracking cookie:

Cookie: owner @microsoftwga.112.2o7.net/

:confused2: Trying to figure out what it is about, I googled it and found it mentioned on several forums where people were trying to clear up problems. None of those problems seemed to be related to that cookie.

My guess is that it is related to Microsoft's recent efforts to detect unlicensed OS copies. If so, I don't understand why Ad-Aware would flag it. What are the consequences if I delete it?

I figure there are several experts here who know what this is all about and could save me from wasting a significant portion of my life digging for information. Anyone? Thanx ahead of time.:thankyou2
 
To the best of my knowledge, there is NEVER any negative consequence of deleting a browser cookie.

From the name of this one I wondered if it would affect the weekly XP updates.

I don't pretend to understand a lot of this computer stuff, but I thought that one use of cookies enabled me to avoid the need for repeating passwords on each visit to a website. If so, removing those cookies presents a small negative consequence. That consequence grows as my brain cells deteriorate with age, however. If I am mistaken I will not hesitate to delete cookies.
