Garage heaters. (Again)

Hello, Y'all!

I've read several articles here that talk about garage heaters but none of them really address my issue.

I need some advice on a heater for my detached garage.

I build model wooden ships so It’s vital the wood glue cures.

My garage is 4000 Cubic Feet and well insulated. Even the garage door is insulated with Foamular. I asked google and she said I need 8,000 BTU’s, or 2500 watts.

Of course, the one I let think wears the pants in the family refuses to park her car outside, so she insists on opening the garage door twice a day.

Anyway, I live in central Ca., but don’t let anyone fool you. It’s currently 53 degrees at 12:30 pm. and I’ve seen it as low as 27 degrees at 4:00 am. The wife leaves around 5:00 am. and returns around 3:30 pm. Of course, her car provides plenty of heat for a while when she gets home.

I get up around 7 AM, grab a cup of coffee and head to the garage to do some vaping and browse the web for Kitty porn. (Just kitting) Ah, but am I kitting about vaping or the kitties?

I have one oil radiator, and one portable air heater. I fire them up when I come out to the garage, and it takes a few hours before it is warm enough to play with my models.

There is about 10 hours a day that I don’t use the garage, and given the price of electricity out here, (I call it the trickle-down effect of Enron.) I would hate to see our electric bill if I didn’t shut them off at night.

I’m interested in radiant heat.

My main priority is a smart heater wherein I can program it like a house thermostat. I’ve read that I can put one “in line,” but if a heater falls within my needs, I see no reason to create more work.

I have plenty of space, so I don’t really need a wall or ceiling mount.

Thoughts anyone?

Personally my shop is heated with a gas Mr Heater, ceiling mounted. But since you don't want something like that, and since you seem to be favoring a portable type heater, I'd be looking at one that has a built in timer. I like the oil filled electric radiator style units, but they don't heat up an area fast. However they are safe.

Not sure about the radiant units, I've used some portable propane units, but I'd never leave one of those in my shop alone, unattended and don't know if something like that could be set on a timer.

I've been looking at the

Heat Storm HS-6000-GC Heater

Wifi, 240 volt wall mount, $240.00 plus $50.00 for a 4 year warranty. I can't find a decent gas heater for less than $500.00, plus the cost of running gas to the garage. Not interested in propane. I'd have to get 2 tanks and swap them out all the time.

I've been researching for several weeks now. I'm going to have to build a spreadsheet with some kind of matrix or something, there are so many different types, features...etc.

Thanks!

How many square feet is your garage?
I have a dual fuel wall heater (that could be free standing on the floor), thermostat controlled and way less than $500. Works great in my window room.
From Home depot. Here is a link:

I recently got a programable timer ($26 at Home Depot). It will handle 1500 watts. You could set it up to run an electric heater/radiator in the middle of the night.

20 x 20 x 10 feet tall, so 4000 cubic feet.

I was just looking at the Procom vent free heaters on Amazon and was told they were not for sale in California. So I asked google and she said no vent free heaters are legal in California. Isn't that just special?

I've run into that before. We bought our house new and when it's 10th birthday came around I wanted to replace the smoke detectors. I wanted the same brand and the newest model of the one I had so I didn't have to change the "Base" it plugged into. Amazon said, cannot ship to California. I had to ship it to my son in Michigan and he shipped to me.

So, what? No one likes my model? Took over 3 years to build that puppy!

Yeah, but I need at least 2500 watts and I don't want it to run at night. I want it to fire up at 5:15 am. to keep the juice bill down.

You should be able to find a heavier duty timer, set it for whatever times you need it to fire up. There are lots of options.

I used to have a timer on my diesel pump so I could leave my tank powered off except for times when I needed to fuel vehicles or tractors. There are all sorts of timers for all sorts of wattages.

Lot's 'O these puppies come with timers. Problem is narrowing them down to one with a good track record. Some might call me anal, but I check Consumer Reports, Popular Mechanics, pretty much all of the well known review sites. Even the BBB.

The model looks awesome. How about starting a thread in the hobbies forum to go into more detail on it. I'd be interested.
So would I.

I have the USS Constitution on a table in my family room.
I did not build it, came from a friend's son who lived with us for a while.
No pics as of yet.
