I just got an email from my uber-liberal Congressman who was extolling the virtues of taxing others and then sending their cash to my local school.

Now I'm not sure why my local school needs your money for our school's security. Its already pretty darn secure (I know because my wife works there). Oh, and there is already a cop and a former cop inside. And another cop is one of the coaches. And the doors are locked preventing access. Even access to the parts of the parking lot is restricted with electric gates.

So I have to ask, why did you give us your money?

Dear Robert:

Ensuring the safety of the citizens of Northwest Indiana remains my top priority, which is why I am pleased to inform you of a local grant award to the Lowell community.

The U.S. Department of Justice recently awarded the Lowell Police Department a grant of $65,746 for the Secure Our Schools program. The Secure Our Schools program will help the Lowell Police Department work with school administrators, teachers, students, and parents to maintain the security of local schools and increase the Department's efficiency in responding to a call.

Our children spend nearly as much time at school as they do at home, and we need to ensure that they are just as safe there. These funds will be used to establish school safety programs, put in place violence deterrence measures, purchase safety equipment, and develop innovative policies to enhance the security of schools.

Please be assured that I will continue to work with local officials to help keep our communities safe. For additional information regarding the First Congressional District of Indiana, please visit my website, Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr pages.

As always, please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,
Peter J. Visclosky
Member of Congress

Well, that looks like yet another waste of my money.

Exactly it is.

Here is the way I look at it. If the population of my school district would have paid this roughly $65,000 then it would have amount to be a LOCAL TAX of about $5 per person per year.

But this is all about REDISTRIBUTION and BRINGING HOME A PORK BARREL PROJECT.

I'm very sure the congressman in the NEXT district is sending around a similar letter saying he got a similar "grant" awarded to his district. And I'm very sure this is happening all around the nation.

The PROBLEM is that the FEDERAL GUB'MINT taxes me $9 for this, skims off $4 for government bloat to ship my money to Washington, so it be pooled with other money, then due to inefficiency can only ship back to my district an award of $5 per person back. I have a better idea. Since all around the nation schools are either a STATE or LOCAL issue, how about the FEDERAL government stay out of it. Lets tax ourselves locally, keep more of the money by cutting out the gub'mint bloat, and save everyone some cash!!!

I don't need to send my money to Washington so it can then be sent to Kalamazoo only to have money from Ohio come to me.

True, but the sad fact is that probably 99% of the people who got that same email message from my congressman probably felt he did a great job and really helped "the children."

That's because we're dumb and only care about one thing, the money in our own wallet.
