wife and I sitting on the patio this afternoon, when out from the side of the house comes a coyote, running to beat the band. Never have seen one, checked out the coyote pics and sure enough, that was what it was. I did not have the camera out, daggumit.

oh yeah, we live in a subdivision

Danny we live in an area that has 2-5 acres per lot. The other day the wife was out on the deck and here comes a red fox kit running like heck right towards her. She freaked not knowing it probably wouldn't hurt her. It ran under the deck and back out the side. I have seen the mom or dad a few times way out back but never that close.

that is cool, I have seen one red fox in the wild, down by the local quick stop store, he was on a creek bank. Never had seen a coyote though, and never expected one here.

do you see them often there? I know we have them here, just never see them

This is the first time we have seen them on our property. I have seen 3 or 4 hit on the road.

I've seen a coyote or two in the fall, foxes, not so much.
Last year there was one (red fox) running along the bank of an old reservoir, just south of here.

We have coyotes in our back yard all the time. Don't see them much but just about every night you can hear them singing.

:thumb:I am just glad she did not have her dogs out at the time. I dont know who would have won, but you can bet she would have fought the coyote over her dogs. And I still would not have had the camera out:punk::furious::blink::mrgreen:

The deer ate my vegetable garden the last three years. This year I surrounded it with an 8 foot fence. Three foot of rabbit wire on the bottom, four strands of electric fence and rope and flags at the top. So far it has worked. Looks like Stalag 13.

See coyotes quite often, hear them every night when I'm out with the dogs. Often see a red fox. Rabbits are almost as big a pest as the deer. Haven't seen a skunk in a couple of years, not since a pair of them chased me off the dam at the farm. The occasional alligator shows up in the lake at the farm but haven't seen one of those in well over a year.

A few years back when I owned my business there was a man that came in to pick up my hair clippings. He said the human smell kept the deer outta his garden. I guess it worked because he was always back for more

damn you have a wild life zoo going on there. WE have a skunk again, little fellar, eats the left over cat food. He has sprayed 2 times, guess the cats dont like dinner guests. I am going to get a pic of him

did you sell it to him? that would work better than moth balls............which BTW dont work

We have a family of wild skunks. My cat used to go romp around with them. She never got sprayed so they must have been buddies.
We also have a raccoon that hangs around. Our yard is a zoo.

oh my, do those not have the scent gland yet? I dont mind the one that comes around, but I dont want that many, I dont think anyway.

Never seen a coyote. But there are lots of fox around here. I see 3-4 of them every day on the highway going to work. Used to feed them every morning when I was younger and still in school. One wood be waiting in the yard every morning when I walked to catch the bus. It would walk to the bus stop with me and sit there till I left.

Yes they still have their scent glands. Our cat used to have a very slight stench when she came back in the house after rough housing with these critters.
I smell them in the hedge out front and hurry to get the weeds pulled and get out of there. Even the baby skunks can blast you if provoked. Take care, Darroll

OK Darrol. Gotta do this, but that pic has been around for ages. I think I even posted it here before...

Yup.. here it is...http://www.forumsforums.com/3_9/showthread.php?t=15158

It's fine.........
It was the only picture I could find about skunks.
I wanted to let people know that the babies are dangerous also.
Those little girls could of been sprayed. Tomato juice is the only thing we used to get the stink out. My dog used to get sprayed all the time and we live in town.
I have an old photo in my album, but I have not scanned it yet.

Thanks, darroll

You will want to keep an eye on your pets, and don't let them run loose at night, even for a quick trip out and back before bedtime. Yotes are well known to kill, and sometimes eat cats and small dogs. Almost lost our small dog to one a few years back, less than 100 feet from the back door, tore her up pretty good, about 50 stitches worth.
