Yard Art? What a shame!

I was driving along the freeway the other day and noticed a man had several tractors, dozers etc. stretched out along his property. It is yard art. However I noticed an old Tucker among the collection. I guess it is just going to waste. It lookes like the early 1950s era Tuckers.

Where's that Tucker? She needs help and I'm sure there's one or two here willing to take on the job.

Looked at the auction pictures. Appears some of the other tracks were with it then. But Mikey has just scored 3 Tucker pontoons. Wonder if they'd fit this machine?

I don't know if this is where I post a reply, but here it goes. It is in central California. I have gotten some information and am trying to determine who owns the ranch it is on. What is something like this generally worth. It looks like it is in pretty rough shape and is missing some tracks. It has the hatch door on the back and the interior was a little dirty but not trashed. I'll see if and where this posts.

You posted just fine. As far as what it's worth...in dollars...not much. Maybe a couple hundred max. I'd pay that. But to some here it may be worth more as a fun and history-preserving project to while away their retirement. I talking about a Tucker version of 'Mainer'. :yum:

Bobcat: I think that rig is worth a few thousand $ to the owner as an advertising landmark, so it wouldn't be cheap to get it away from him no matter how shabby its condition. Traffic past there is what, 50,000 cars per day? Everybody in 100 miles knows where his property is now. That Snowcat has made him a celebrity.

I just looked it up. For a point 5 miles down the road:
[2005 daily] traffic on I–80 in the vicinity ranges from 127,000 to 137,000 vehicles, with peak-hour, peak-
direction, traffic volumes estimated at about 6,660 vehicles [per hour in the peak direction.]
The owner doesn't seem to care about its condition. I've seen the driver's door open 180 degrees resting against the engine for weeks at a time, several times, over the past 1.5 - 2 years its been there. Maybe he thinks it improves his name recognition if people talk about his neglect.

I expect to see a For Sale sign on that parcel sooner or later, at top dollar speculator price. It really is prime freeway frontage, and now, with the Snowcat, everybody knows exactly where it is.

I think restoring it is much better than letting it rot in the field. I have too many projects at my house to take on more. I need to get rid of my 1946 and 1947 Dodge dump trucks, front end loaders etc. and get down to some of this fun stuff. I play with reparis on two Thiokols for a church camp and that is fun. I just rebuilt an OC 12 rearend. I donated a complete set of manuals for Thiokol 1200 with original manuals for the engines etc. to a fire department, because these treasures need to be saved and shared. I could scan them and creat PDF files if somebody needed to review them. I think one set said it was for a 1250. That is what attracted me to this forum, more guys that like to figure out how to get and fix this old stuff. however, I do dream of the Super Yukon periodically as a fun project.

Maybe he would trade for other yard art like pack rats do in the wild. Maybe he would trade one of my old trucks or tractors. I got a real estate flyer with a phone number on it. I was going to call to see who owns it and see if it for sale.

Wow. I think you just made a lot of new snowcat friends with that post! :thumb:

I hope this cat someday meets these pontoons...

Bingo!! Google Maps is amazing. Here it is! You can zoom, spin, etc Google's photo of the Snowcat.

Google map with their enroute photo of the Snowcat!

That's the frontage, with I-80 on the left. This is on the fringe of the premium wine region so that parcel may become a snob retail winery. There's already one at American Canyon offramp.

Incidentally, the Napa/Solano fire that is filling the Central Valley with smoke is just north of this location. Fire map, Google.

Are those the pointy-nose ones like the 39 Dodge car, or the later rounded style? The pointy ones are classics. I can still hear the unique compound gear whine from those, and I haven't seen one run for 20+ years.

If you have some photos, could you start a Classic Dodge Truck thread?

I would like to get any Thiokol manuals that you have as .PDFs and add them to our growing on-line collection of vintage snowcat manuals that are kept here:

http://www.goldcordmine.com/manuals/

We currently don't have any Thiokol 1200 or 1250 manuals!

Hey WAYNE, glad to hear you got that church camp Thiokol running, I think it was you I had many long phone conversations with to lead you step-by-step through the rebuild of the OC-12. Was that you? I hadn't heard from you since then and I wondered what happened. I hope you do scan and share those manuals. What happened to rest of the OC-12 parts you had?
