I've seen parents do this kind of shit to their kids... 8 year-old looking like a punk rocker with multi-colored kool-aid hair. I think they call it "Individualism," but I have other names for it. Screw the people, I feel bad for the dogs.
I think it's utterly stupid to do this to a dog.
Poodles (many breeds) undergo enough time during a regular grooming appointment alone.
To subject them to something this asinine smacks of the owner needing attention for some freaky reason.. just like those mothers who enter their daughters in beauty pageants at such a tender age.
Do I think it's abuse? Yes. The dogs certainly don't want to go through all that crap, I am sure. Not to mention the noise...lights and cameras... humiliating them to the point of looking unnatural.

I guess this is why I seem to only like hunting dogs. There's a dignity in a bone tired dog which has spent it's day in the field which can't be taken away; to see the pride in the dog's face, it's gait and especially in it's eyes... It's no "doggy", it's a hunter. It's eyes will tell you exactly what it thinks of you. These poor, pitiful excuses exhibit not a trace of the purpose they were created to fulfill. Shame on those who breed the origional traits from the gene pool. Shame on anyone who would steal a dog's pride this way.
