Would you eat a two-week-old sandwich? Long-life lunch on its way...

Of course, the Brits haven't the first clue about how to make a decent sandwich, and if one wants to enjoy one obver here then its gonna have to be a home-made sandwich... But, in any event, personally I wouldn't eat a store bought sandwich from anywhere. How about you guys?

For most of us, a fortnight-old sandwich can have only one destination - the bin.
But we could soon be raiding the fridge for last week’s lunches without a thought of food poisoning.

Scientists say they have discovered the secret to a longer-living sarnie, and it is being rolled out at corner shops and convenience stores across the UK.

The new sandwiches have a shelf-life of an unbelievable 14 days, with manufacturers claiming they are as good on day 14 as they are on day one.

The concept goes against everything most modern food suppliers stand for - with many taking pride in preparing food freshly every morning.

And while the humble supermarket sandwich normally lasts barely 12 hours, the new ‘super-sandwich’ sold by Booker, will still be safe to eat after two weeks.

The flavours include chicken tikka, ham and cheese, chicken and bacon, tuna mayonnaise and cheese and onion - all on oatmeal bread.

The range aims to minimise wastage for retailers and is aimed at the budget shopper, at just £1.49 a packet.

Steve Fox, sales director of Retail, said: 'Booker is committed to increasing our choice of products. They are convenient and with shelf ready packaging easy to introduce into stores.

'They look and taste great and with a longer shelf life than most sandwiches, they are ideal to reduce retailers wastage.

'I would encourage retailers to buy these products little and often to maintain fantastic availability and make their store a destination for food to go.'

Sounds good to me, but I'm not as picky as most folks and I only eat because I have to. Most of the food I have my wife buy for me has a very long shelf life , most without the need for refridgeration .

She on the other has different tastes in food and actually enjoys eating .

Heck at 2 weeks old I won't even throw it to the chickens! I like my stuff pretty fresh unless it comes from the freezer. I will get out some bacon for tomorrow and then use fresh picked lettuce and tomatoes to make my sandwich on 12 grain bread. Fresh sandwich is a must around here. The preservatives they use to keep stuff that long are hard on your body organs.

Guess that depends on what is in the sandwich, some stuff could be in the Pyramids and still be edible with the preservitives they put in some of that stuff, other stuff goes bad after you get it home.

I can make you a sausage that will easily be food safe for 2 years. It will taste great the first 6 months or so. After that, food safe, but no taste.

Sure, why not? I've eaten one of them frozen single serve potpies, (Banquet or Sara Lee, I think, that type, you know what I mean,) that had expired over 4 years prior. Wasn't half bad. They call me The Freezer Cleaner.

I really wish that you could buy a 50# bag of people chow.

I get almost no enjoyment from eating any more, nor do I really care.

In a pinch, dog food will provide the necessary nutrients for a human to live. Get the gravy kind, add some water, and it might go down easier :w00t2:

Hi Lia!
Where have you been? lol
Hmmmmm you say the Brits don't know how to make a decent sandwich?
Gregg's make nice chicken salad sarnies, they make GOOD ones!
First time I ordered a "chicken salad" from there, that's exactly what I got.
Chicken and salad (vegetables) on bread.. not anything like what is chicken salad over here lol

I'd be all over a tuna/mayo/cheese/onion. :D
They came up with the (UHT) long shelf-life milk.. why not a sandwich?

Actually, altho I've never tried their food (yuk)! when I was a child I would playfully tease my Dogs by offering them a doggie biscuit and then pretend to take a bite myself; sometimes I actually did chew on them and they tasted good. Really yummy.

Yeah, I know, I'm weird. lol

Dave send some of that Cheese on over to Lia. Seems to me she needs it to with her wine. :hide:
NOW I understand! And, furthermore, you're right, you are indeed a dead man walking murph!

Oh and welcome back Lia. :yum:

I ain't been anywhere!

Weeell, I will admit to liking the Bacon Butty with Daddies sauce, and there's a certain place down Pompey way, on the sea front, where the Chicken Sandwiches are straight outta heaven, I kid you not, but for anything else in the Brit sandwich line... Nah.

...(unless of course, one makes it themselves),

Because they don't have any real imagination. altho, I love the black puddings over here. Sadly, no-one else in my family does, so I don't get to eat it often. :(

Should not be allowed to read food threads before breakfast! That bacon I got out for BLT's for lunch might not make it till then! Been trying to eat more cereal this week but now I want some meat for breakfast!
