Got this via email. interesting ....but I doubt it makes you looks at politics any differently. :)

I just took an online political quiz that you should try. It takes less
than a minute, but it will help you look at politics in a whole new Way.

It's the World's Smallest Political Quiz at:

www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html.

You'll be asked just 10 questions, and then it instantly tells you
where you stand politically. It shows your position as a red dot on a
"political map" so you'll see exactly where you score. The most
interesting thing about the Quiz is that it goes beyond the Democrat,
Republican, Independent.

The Quiz has gotten a lot of praise. The Washington Post said it has
"gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings."

The Fraser Institute said it's "a fast, fun, and accurate assessment of
a person's overall political views." Suite University said it is the
"most concise and accurate political quiz out there."

Again, it's at: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html .

See if you land where you think you are politically; and post it here if you dare.

I sit in the middle of the libertarian section.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 90%.

I couldn't describe me, so here--

Pretty much where I thought I'd be.

I took it twice - first time I was liberal, second I was libertarian. I changed one answer which was 50% reduction in taxes. Surprisingly low stats for the conservatives! Good quiz, Doc :thumb:

I came out smack in the center of libertarian......but I've never voted that way.

Bang on in the middle, but I answered most maybe because I didnt have a clue

Interesting!

Took it twice. It said I'm a Libertarian the first and a Conservative Libertarian the second time.
Personal 50 & 60%
Economic 90 & 90%

Wish I remebered which question I changed! :pat:

I land right where I expected I would.

What I expected, also. I've always said I was a social liberal and a fiscal conservative; my issues Score bears this out.

Now, what would be interesting would be to set up those ten questions as discussion items, and find out why people feel the way they do; to discover why they thing there should be a national identity card or why there should be corporate welfare, and where people expect to get their national defense if spending is cut more than 50%!

Arrgg, Don must have rigged it so all subsequent users would match his perfectly! :D

Or course, it looks like I'm planted right between AV8R and Skurka.....not sure if that's a good thing either!

I'm curious to see if anyone scored DIFFERENTLY than they expected? So if you think you are a liberal and you actually score libertarian, statist, or conservative (or visa versa).

[/FONT] Interesting. And I agree. FWIW, I would cut national spending by 50% but you imply that I would cut national defense by more than 50% and my vote does not mean that, in fact I would cut the defense budget, but I'd eliminate many other departments completely. I'd also like to know why some people favor a national identity card (and many of those folks favoring it come from both sides of the spectrum but not from the libertarian camp).

Being stuck right between 2 people is only bad if those two people start shooting at each other!

I guess I now know where I fit in. My problem is I haven't been able to find a political party that matches my views.

Feel free Spiffy. You could do a seperate post for each of the ten if you are trying to generate disscussion on each .....or all together, your call.

Actually, it was Don's idea, but I can throw out the threads/polls quick....might get confusing with 10 issues going at once, but only one way to find out! :D

I think the most interesting fact that is becoming apparent is that everyone here has scored above the halfway point towards Libertarian and away from Statist. Even the most Liberal are higher on the scale. What that means to me is that accusations that Liberals are in favor of more governmental control and influence are untrue, at least for those on this forum. In fact, I can't think of anyone I know, whether in person or by reputation as a politician, who would be in favor of Statism -- that is, a society where the state controls everyone's lives. That is just unAmerican.

Partially perhaps just this forum, but I think you certainly have a point that Statism is unAmerican in any light.

I'll have to standardize the poll votes and put it back into the original quiz in the next day or two (unless someone else would rather do it :poke: ). I'm somehow betting a Libertarian output, but doubt many here actually vote other than the "two" parties very often.

(Text in bold was highlighted by Bob for emphasis)

Don I think you have come to the wrong conclusion.

For proof of this, go to the poll/thread about Social Security (which unfortunately has devolved into a discussion which has nothing to do with Social Security). Or past threads about healthcare. Or review some of the debates about our political leaders.

Now I will say that 'Statist' types of government are contrary to American society and when pushed most Americans would not want a Chinese or old style Soviet centralized power base with state controlled businesses, but I would say that there are often cries by many for the states to take over utility providers and some other services that are now private and that shows that at least on a limited basis, there is some isolated statist support here in the US which is about as anti-statist of a culture as can be found.

Here's mine. At the intersection of Centrist, Conservative, and Libertarian.

I think I'm reasonably well-informed, and I certainly try to keep up with events, attitudes and such. And, I can honestly say, I have never heard anyone "cry", or even mention, that states should take over a utility provider. Here in our fast-growing city, the water and sewer service was started by the original land developer. After they went bankrupt, and nothing was being done to extend or improve the service, our city did take over the water & sewer. In fact, just a week ago, another developer who had started their own water & sewer service within the city, in a "special taxing district", threw in the towel and invited the city to take over their water & sewer. But, that's at the municipal level -- I've never heard anyone consider it at the state or national level.

But, I hasten to say, I bet there are not many municipalities in the country that have a private water & sewer system. Maybe this is where we should start, at the grass roots level, and privatize all those utilities? Do you want to take the chance?

A city just to the North of us, Fort Pierce, had a city-owned electric system but just privatized it. That is much more the trend.

I'm not sure what "other services" you're referring to, but I really can't think, off the top of my head, of any "services" that are offered privately that anyone might want to turn over to government. Can you give me an example, or mention which utilities people are "crying" for the state to take over?

Hey, I've got a great suggestion for you. Do any of your employees use public transportation to get to work? Let's privatize the public transportation and force them to operate on a "pay as you go" basis without the government subsidies. Then, how much of a raise will you have to give to your employees to afford to ride the bus? Will you and all of the employers of the millions of riders all do the same? What will that do to prices? Will that affect inflation? Will the Fed have to step in and regulate interest rates to keep the economy afloat? Oh, wait, there's that ugly word "regulate" again. We have to get rid of the Fed, also, and let market conditions control the monetary system.

Then, you and I might meet when we're both picking up enough aluminum cans to be able to afford to ride the bus...

Just a reminder:

Please vote in all 10 poll questions, so we can see where FF fits collectively.

Also, anyone have a good sugestion for a formula to normalize a Agree, Maybe, Disagree vote from our polls?

Something with 8 Agrees, and 1 each of the other options is obvious, 5 each agree and disagree is a obvious: Maybe, but I don't think most of the polls were that obvious.
