Windshield glass supply

Hey snowmen (and bunnies),
I've pretty much exhausted myself searching for answers on these forums, so just asking straight out: where are you kids getting windshield glass? I know where to get the seals, but the glass? For my 1404 Imp. Really should replace the cracked passenger side before I squirt paint on later this summer. Don't know yet if anyone within 200 miles of here could custom make one, and don't really want to remove the existing window until I have a replacement lined up (and not sure I can get the window out to use as a template without it falling apart).
TIA....

I went to my local glass/window shop. I took in one side that was still good for a template. I did laminated 1/8” like the originals. No tint. If you can make a paper template of the Glass and mail to them at least it cuts down on one trip. Do the install on a hot day, not January like me. It goes so much better with warm gaskets!

Portland Glass or similar. Every windshield / glass shop will carry flat laminated. Just bring your pieces in for templates and pick up fresh perfectly cut and ground sheets. And as mentioned above, summer is your friend. Buy the plastic spoons and use plenty of WD-40 or soapy water.

One trick is get some self adhesive shelf paper and cover the broken glass both sides with it. When you remove the glass it will hold any pieces in place. If it's laminated glass it should come out without losing chunks as is, but the paper will help hold size better than the plastic laminate. If there is a good local body shop, ask them who they use for windshields. Some glass outfits have route drivers that call on body shops for picking up templates and dropping off product.

Thanks all, great suggestions! I'll check out our local glass shop, small mom and pop outfit but if they can't make one then perhaps can point me somewhere else.
I'll replace the rubber seal of course, it's pretty old and hard, so I guess I'll just take a utility knife and cut it out in order to remove the glass. I've researched "roping in" the new glass (install the new seal on the glass first, run the rope in the groove of the seal where it will seat in the body frame) lube it all up on a hot day, and have someone push on the opposite side while roping it into the frame. I don't have a 'somebody' locally handy to help, so thinking of using huge glass handling suction cups to I can pull to put pressure on as needed. Any other suggestions, I'm all ears.
First things first, talk to the glass people.

Ok kids, went down to the local glass shop yesterday...they can't make it but can send a template off to some other outfit that can. So I pay them plus the middle man but that's how the ball bounces anymore. No idea of the cost and really don't care.
Fun and games taking the broken one out this morning, but not all the difficult after first pulling out the locking strip, squirting a bunch of WD40 in the seal, and nice warm sunshine. Started at a corner with a screwdriver (don't have the proper plastic tools...yet)....God forbid that I should crack a cracked window! Anyway, she's out and soon on the way to the glass dude.
Dan will hook me up with a new seal.

Pulled the window out yesterday, measures 1/4" thick....not 1/8" as you stated. I'm sure you're referring to two sheets of 1/8" (actually 3/32") laminated together. Just for the sake of clarification.
Waiting to hear back from Dan at Snowcat Service to purchase the rubber gasket/seal and 2 weeks out before I have the new window in hand.

Modern glass in courdelaine is snowcat literate.

I use tri city glass in my zip code.

Glass has become so hard to get here i bought a diamond water cooled belt sander and a case of glass.

Tempered glass has to be ordered in size.
Laminate or safety glass is easy.

Thanks, I'll keep them in mind...just a short 175 mile drive from here. Hopefully the laminated glass I'm having built somewhat locally will do the trick.
