Windows 8

Anyone here running this piece of sh!t?? I'm trying to import email account info and can't figure out how to do it. I also don't like the whole Microsoft account thing to get email through your ISP's email service.

Also can't find the equivalent of control panel, Windows Media Player and other stuff.

Does anyone have any useful hints at navigating this OS?

Advancements in technology do not necessarily reflect the aging and experience of those whose job it is to use it. I still hate Win7 on the wife's laptop.

I am still with win 7 but I was told It doesn't work well unless you have a touch screen.

WIN 8 is supposed to work much like a pad computer. Try right clicking on the desktop. A bunch of stuff is supposed to pop up when you do. A friend of mine has it and after what he told me & I read about it I decided I didn't want it.

I'm starting to get the hang of Windows 8. It's more like 2 operating systems: one that's more tablet friendly, and another that's a progression from Windows 7.

I had to download Live Mail (Windows Essentials) to import my email account info from my Vista machine, and I'm still figuring out where some stuff is. Non of this has been intuitive (to me anyway), but there are also some ways in which they've made things a bit easier (i.e.: talking to other devices on the network).

I like Windows 8. Just getting my first taste of it today. I makes it easier to uniinstall nagware and adware pgms. They sneakily put IE right where the start button used to be. We are so trained to click there, that I've already started IE two times unintentionally.
Overall I think it will really catch on once folks take the time to play with it. It is more intuitive than other windows OS's. Try it you'll like it. :D

I disagree on the intuitive thing, but I also have no exposure to smart phones and tablets. I figured I better get acclimated to that technology by getting used to Windows 8. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the first Windows 8 based smartphones and tablets. Should be interesting.

I would only run Win8 if I had a new touch screen computer. I see no reason to rush into it otherwise (and I'm usually an early adopter).

Apparently the BIOS is now hidden/moved in Win8. So say my early adopter/computer programmer buddy who is having all sorts of grief.

Lots of things have moved in Windows 8. Bios would be dependent on the manufacturer, at least it used to be that way. Hit the right key combination before it boots and you are in bios. I have not looked for or tried to get into bios yet. It's a friends computer, not mine.

What I DO like about "8" is the old windows interface. You can toggle between the new tablet\app style GUI and the older traditional Windows GUI.

One of the first things I did with Windows 8 was set it up for local login. Otherwise the Network login automatically keeps all your 'stuff' on the MS cloud. I'm not ready for Microsoft to put all my stuff on their cloud. No thankyou.

Which is why I installed Live Mail instead of using the email app on Windows 8. Way too big brother for me.

I'm avoiding live mail for now. Looking for some other email client like Thunderbird or The Bat or Incredimail. All offer free email clients. The Bat is the most robust, but I'm undecided if I need all the extra features.
I have Live mail on my win 7 laptop and do not care for it. I wish it had come with outlook like previous versions of MS OS's.
