Winch controls on Muskeg 252

Bought a nice 1978 Muskeg 252 with low hours, and just going through it.
This unit has the Perkins diesel non turbo and a manual 5 speed (and reverse).
I've figured out most controls but not the winch.
The winch is on the front bumper and is an 8,000 lb shaft driven winch.
There is a PTO nob on the back of the dog house that I've managed to loosen up that might be to engage the power shaft to the winch.
I've got the manual drum release lever working on the winch, but how do I select power to winch in or winch out?
With this size of winch I want to know what does what before feeding power to the drive shaft or it will bust stuff.

I'm also looking for one headlight bezel. Anyone know where I can find one? What vehicle did Bombardier "borrow" these from?

Might as well post some pictures. As you can see it needs paint, but not rusted through anywhere that I can find.
This machine only has 658 hrs on it since new. Spent most of it's life sitting out side doing nothing.

I pulled the rad out to have it tested as there is a wet spot on the bottom corner, but looks like that lower rad hose was changed as well. Better check that be sorry for being lazy and sitting on the trail in the middle of nowhere in the winter.
And great time to change the fan belt as well!

Nice Muskeg , head light bezel where it was originally from ,I haven't figured that one out yet either. The winch pto on the side of the trans is reversible , my MT 73 uses a lever that shifts the pto. Guess you'll have to roll out some cable or put the winch in neutral up front and get that knob/cable figured out. My neighbor has that type on his , I'll check it out.

Was wondering why there are no breather kits on the front diff to combat the water getting into the diff?
Looks easy to drill and tap a spot in the cover on the passenger side.
Any advise?

Carrier type (engine over the diff) has a tendency to suck snow through the rad grille and moisture lies on the lid , so there must be a good seal on the gasket.
Water going in the breather to me is not an issue unless you submerge it. The housing is large , with the hot cold heat cycles it can cause condensation over time. I keep an eye on my oil and don't have problems , plus my machines sleep inside which makes a difference.

You mentioned water going in the breather not an issue, so there is a breather on the front diff?
Location of breather? So I can check it.

Top of the pinion box , have seen a hose on some for the submariners among us . Should also be a oil drain plug on the bottom of the box to drain the pinion , some of the older ones did not have it.

The top of the pinon/differential box on my Muskeg is under the Perkins engine, so it is tough to look around under there and access the box lid. So that is why I was wondering which side I should concentrate on for my search.
Is the fitting for the breather screwed into the top of the cover? I've scrapped of most of the box cover, but haven't found it yet. Maybe the nipple is broken off, and if I knew where to look ... ?
My Muskeg does have the drain plug on the bottom, so I've drained the box and put in 5 gallons of fresh JD Hy-Gard.
I also have the rad out and this would be the best time to find that breather hole.

In the pic I posted, the curved pipe in the center of the pinion housing is the vent. The main diff housing drain is at the rht sprocket , the other drain is at the pinion housing underneath, doesn't hold much. All this is very fun to get at with the engine there.

Okay thanks for that.
I bought a Bombardier, so the SV252G is up for sale.

I see by your kijigi ad the model line is not stamped on the tag . Found it in the Bombardier Archives , it was delivered to Vernon BC in 1978 , model is MCD-78
