About 5:30 this evening there was a huge ruckus out in the woods not far from the house. A wild turkey fight??? Or some freaky wild turkey love fiesta???

Not sure, never heard a fight between turkeys and this was after dark. I presumed they'd be up in their roosts since it was dark?

Anyone a turkey expert?

What the heck did we hear in the woods

I think it's the wrong time of the year for Tom's to be fighting. That comes in the spring and breeding. My guess is, that you heard a turkey being rolled by a coyote...Fights to the death are usually fairly noisy as turkeys are a tough bird. I think you need a good varmit call and a full moon. The CZ rifle done yet??

Go check for feathers tommarrow. Then you'll know.

Bigfoot?????

How the hell does he walk if he only has one of them??? These are the kind of questions that a sober minds asks at 30 minutes past midnight ... or Big Al at any time on Dr Rums. :yum:

Turkeys are pretty noisy when they fly up to roost. Most of the time they fly up sequentially and the whole process can take several minutes. However once in late December while muzzloading for deer in the evening, I watched a 15-20 bird gaggle of longbeards come down the ridge towards me feeding along as they moved. Then all at once the lead bird made a kind of purr and they all flew up at once cackling. The purr may have been an alarm.

What kind of vocalizations did you hear?
