Why are Democrats Against Photo ID's at Polls?

Cityboy

Banned
I know why. Because they cannot commit voter fraud if the principal of "one person, one vote" is upheld.

Here in Georgia, the state legislature passed the voter ID law. They even put in a provision that those who do not already have a driver's liscense, who cannot afford to pay the fee for the photo ID card, the card would be free.

The Democrats protested and appealed the law to a liberal federal judge who made a statement to the effect that it would place undue hardship on "some" voters. Of course it would. It would place a hardship on those who "vote early, vote often".

Now the battle will likely go all the way to the supreme court.

OK Dems. Tell us why it is somehow discriminatory to require photo ID at the polls?

Call me naive, but I thought we were past the days of having to worry about voting fraud by someone voting more than once. Here in Ohio we do not need a picture id but if not registered properly you need proof of residence to vote.
I see nothing wrong with requiring a photo ID and do not understand that judges statement. From what you've posted it seems so obviously WRONG! I agree with you on this one Cityboy!

My understanding of the "why" opposition is that it would prevent illegal immigrants from voting. It is no secret that the vast majority of illegals vote democrat if able to vote. People wouldn't have to vote more than once, but people who are not allowed to vote would be able to influence elections. Allowing these people to vote is honestly not good for our country. Regardless of your political affiliation, think about it. If illegals and people in prison are all allowed to vote, can you imagine what could happen? I don't think I need to draw a map here. As Americans, we do not want some people in this country the privilege to vote, and for a good reason.

More lies and misrepresentation.

I just researched the Georgia voter photo ID issue, and you coneniently failed to mention that the basis of the suit was the fee issue. Georgia originally filed to have a $10 fee for a 4-year card. Then, they changed it to $20 for a 6 year card and $35 for a 10-year card. While Georgia claims to have filed the changes with the federal elections office, they have not yet received approval, but passed the law anyway.

The suits against the law are based on the claim that the fee is an uncostitutional poll tax. If you cannot afford the $20 fee for a card, you will not be able to vote. That can be a hardship for some people. Before you jump up and claim that anyone can afford $20, let me tell you that there are elderly people in my neighborhood who can't afford a newspaper!

Georgia has countered that there is a procedure for hardship cases to receive the card at no charge. The suits claim that the procedure is too complex and intricate, and not easy to understand. It isn't mentioned in the research I did, but I would say that having to go to a specific site to have a photo ID card made could also be an undue hardship for some people.

3 other states currently require photo IDs, but Georgia is the only one that is requiring that card be issued by the state, at state-established locations, and state-mandated prices.

Frankly, given the history of the Southern states with regards to trying to prevent a Black vote, through the use of poll taxes and other discriminatory practices, I can understand their paranoia.

You, on the other hand, have absolutely no proof of voter fraud, voting more than once, or any of your other ludicrous claims. You only posted the biased and incomplete question in order to stir things up and exhibit your blatant prejudice. You ought to be ashamed, but I doubt if you're capable. You are EXACTLY the mentality I escaped from at TBN, except that here, I will not be banned for providing the true story.

Okay Don, I'm suffering a bit from sleep deprivation, so please forgive me if I'm all wet, but was that aimed at me? I honestly do think there are some people, such as I mentioned, who shouldn't be able to vote.

No, it was aimed at CityBoy. He was the one who raised the subject without providing all of the information, conveniently leaving out the actual reasons why the law was being contested, and trying to turn it into something that it isn't. The people you mentioned, such as non-citizens and people with a felony record, are NOT able to vote, so your point is well-taken, but irrelevant.

Uhm...Don...

I live here in Georgia and your post is utterly full of leftist bullshit. You know nothing of my state and apparently nothing about southerners either, aside from your arrogant elitist liberal assumptions.

I do know for a fact that Democrats commit voter fraud every election. I personally know a black minister here in Macon who openly admits to taking busloads of church members from precint to precint to vote as many times as they can. You can stow you liberal elitist bullshit. I live here. I know the full story. You do not.

The voter ID's are FREE to those who cannot afford it. Let me spell it for you: F-R-E-E.

Now explain why it is that Democrats have a problem showing photo ID in order to vote? And be careful talking shit of things you know nothing about.

I pulled up the news stories; I pulled up summary copies of the lawsuits; I read the responses from Georgia officials. The suits are about the fee, and the difficulty of obtaining the official state ID. There is no objection to the ID, itself. Therefore, it is you who are taking shit.

Next, you are putting words in my mouth and telling me how I think. Again, you are talking shit. I resent it.

I'm done responding to any post that you participate in, and if you continue to spew such vomit, I'll be quitting FF.

See how quick it got ruined?

Okay Don, I'll argue with you. I don't always agree with you, but I certainly don't want you to leave FF. I'm ready to debate with you. Let's see, how about this; left wing bad, far right wing bad, right half of middle good. :fart2:

personally I like hot wings and breast, can I join in. I am not politically vocal, my vote is my business. We have voter registration and I have to prove who I am when I vote. Even though I am well known to all, since I participated in the vote taking process in town a few years ago.........I was even poll sherriff once....

I loved telling the town jerk to get the "hell" out of the building as he had already voted and his presence after that fact was illegal. he had the nerve to come back asking for tallies.............I came close to sending him to jail over that one.

As for voting more than once................dont do it!

Reminder to all. Discuss all you want but please refrain from name calling and broad generalizations (lefty righty and such). I broke this rule in a reply to cityboy. My bad. Our number 1 rule, open discussion but be civil to each other.
Thanks!!!

Spewing vomit, Don? No, I would say it is you who is doing that, and I called you on it. Now you want to take your ball and go home. You call it ruined because you cannot automatically get your way. Sorry, but you do not know what you are talking about with this Georgia voter ID law. I know some of the state legislators and others involved in state government and I know what is happening in my own state. Don't think you can just come on this site after reading some condensed internet information and purport to know more about my local situation than I do and expect not to get called on it.

I think you don't want to participate in any post that I am involved in because you know I will raise the bullshit flag when I see BS being posted.:bsflag2:

No need to run off though Don. Just understand that this is a two way street. People post, then people get to reply. You must learn to deal with the replys just like everyone else. Nothing to get pissed about.

One thing that we all need to keep in mind: if we stay on topic then we are not going to end up offending other people. Let's try to be objective about subjective topics, it will eliminate personal attacks (even unintended ones) and it will allow us to all share our feelings and disagree about things without being offended by the views of others. I love to discuss politics, I tend to have some strong feelings, but I really don't want to offend or personally attack anyone; nor do I enjoy being offended or attacked.

In this thread I think we are seeing some lines crossed with what is being said. Maybe we need to look a bit more closely at what we write to see if we might be offending or confronting someone when we really should be discussing differences. JMHO

Yeah, sure, if you want this thread to contain just one or two disconnected posts that make no sense together. :D
