Who runs synthetic oil in their cat ??

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
In the engine ? Cases ?
Do you feel its worth the cost ? Do you see any improvement in performace

Been giving it some thought of switching over to all synthetic's in my rig ?
What's your opinion ???

Allen do not run synthetic in your aircooled motor use 15 w40 rotella or another diesel grade oil or aero shell 15 w50 if your engine is built to looser tolerances. the synthetic won't wick the heat off the heads remember my post about the engine breaking a valve .

I just bought a UTV "Ranch Pony" from BMS I think the Motor is a "HISUN" from China that is a clone of the Yamaha RINO. When I asked the Importer about using Castrol "EDGE" synthetic oil they said fine. Now due to the wet clutch and or Drive Belt I read where the oil should have the "JASO" rating.
Any one ran the syntech "EDGE" in there UTC.4stroke. Thanks in advance for any info. Vic.

if you have a belt drive don't worry about it if not here's what I did. my quads are all wet dics I run rotella 5-w40 hd diesel oil in my bombardier my little Suzuki and arctic cats ran years with synthetic mobile 1 the engines wore out before I had a clutch issue. automotive oil is not recommended in wet disc clutches yet ,I have never had a problem, and most had more miles on the odometer before they broke than you all would ever put on them in a life time.

I run synthetic in my Spryte engine. As it lasts longer, I don't change my oil as often. Skip every other oil change and it pays for itself. My cat often sits for a week or two between uses so I like (the idea) that synthetic oil clings much better and for way longer. I haven't notice a performance difference.

My engine gaskets (pan and crank) weep a little oil and it may have picked up since I switched to synthetic. The web is full of reports that synthetic oil will cause leaks. Not sure what to make of that.

The combination of miles I've put on all my quads equals 65,000 miles :clap:did you beat that ?but I do ride a lot certain days of the hunting fall season over 100 miles a day. Personal best day of riding in the mountains 185 miles I think that was a brandy and Advil day

I have all synthetic in my snow trac. haven't noticed any difference.
the amsoil 2 cycle mix works out better for me in the saw. I notice the difference

Ok Brad I have done 200 in a day, but it was gravel road riding in high gear at wide open throttle. after a few hours of pot holes I couldn't feel my hands. now days I drive things with steering wheels not handle bars.

I'm tossing in my opinion.

On our fire apparatus we run synthetic oil (schaeffer oils). Each year we do an oil test and see what, if anything, is happening. Change the oil filer, top the oil off and wait another year. Change the oil only when the tests come back saying we need it. With the large sumps the rigs have the savings in oil costs far outweighs the cost of the tests and has saved us a large pot of money over the years.

On the ST with the 1600 VW, the baby deere (2305), the oil replacement costs is real close to the testing costs. While I will give that the synthetics /may/ have better lubricity, unless I'm willing to test the oil, the synthetics have no cost advantage.

I'm staying with a good name brand oil and changing it each season.
