Where to buy bearings ?

I've done a hundred google searches and have found few listings for the bearings I need. Priced from $7.70 to $35. Quite a spread.

This isn't the first time I've tried to find reasonably priced and maybe even made in USA bearings.

Where have you gotten bearings ?

Thanks

Pixie, I usually buy mine from either NAPA or a local supplier for TIMKEN. Don't know where they are made, only care if they work.

I,ve allways got ours from BRC . http://www.brcbearings.com/ . They have a place in Wichita but I beleive they are based out of Salina KS . I,ve never found anything they dont have . I cant find a website for individual part #,s but I,m sure you could call & order them

We get all our bearing needs from APPLIED BEARING (Applied.com) They will have what you need, however, they may be too cost prohibiting when shipping cost's are figured in to get them shipped to New Hampshire (if not ordering large quantities). They are located about 30mi from me.

Pixie, I got all mine at General Bearing Supply (GBS) gbs.ca Don't know if they have an American version of this store. Is it wheel bearings (19$CDN) or suspension (26$CDN)? They are all Timken - Made in the USA.

Thanks for all the sources. I've checked them all.

BRC says it's for OEM application. Do they sell retail, also ?

Napa has to order them and they aren't cheap or Timkin.

Applied Bearing had them $25

GBS is three hours from here but it's a possibility.

Thanks for the help

Pixie, on bearings quality usually shows in cost. While the most expensive aren't always worth the money, the cheapest are almost always asking for major trouble down the road. Not sure what app you want them for, but if it is a critical area because of location of part or environment, go for a higher priced one.

Yea, I certainly wouldn't get the cheapest.

They are for the wheels on my Muskeg. Each side needs 32 bearings !!

I prefer Timkin or Boyer or something I've heard of .

I hope I don't need all of them at once. Some of them must still be good !!

Ouch!!!!
I just rebuild old tractors. Yeah, all at once would definitely hurt the pocketbook.

Yes they have a retail store in wichita where we purchase over the counter , but they will also ship . It would be worth calling them for that quantity of brgs .

I,m not sure about now but they also used to give a discount on quantity , where we could afford to stock popular brgs to save several trips to town per week .

Thanks for the links, Koz and BD. I checked them out. Kaman was $25 and Motion Industries about the same.

I ordered some from Southwest Wheel > Timkin $16. They give a bulk discount right on the website.

The hunt is still on as I only ordered about a third of what one side uses.....
And I still haven't found the cups or found out if I need them. The cup was $16 at Napa and an SKF bearing $24.

Pixie,
Not exactly nearby, but have you tried Eastern Bearing in Newington? Good for Bearings, seals, O-rings, and other power transmission supplies.

Hi Pixie, You've tried Prinoth? I replaced a mess of bearings on my muskeg (wheel and others) an they were the cheapest I found. They sent me Timkens . Bolts too- although I'd get a price quote before ordering. Once or twice they had a nut or washer that was priced screwy. Also, always request ground shipping- much cheaper and you should get it the next day in NH. There will likely be an import duty included in the shipping charge, which you might ask about when ordering. Maybe you've figured all this out already.

If you need to r + r most or all of your wheels, consider removing all the outer ones then doing the inner ones and then reinstall the outers (assuming the tracks are off). The wheels are a bit heavy and can be awkward to install and it wouldn't be too hard to chew up a seal. If it isn't going well, jacking (and blocking) up the machine a couple more inches might help.

Thanks, Chip.

I did call Prinoth for bolts. I didn't have the right part number so it took some extra effort ...... they were 73 cents each !! Ouch !! and they might have added shipping from Alberta ... I didn't wait around !

I'm on a seal hunt, now. Arp! Arp!

Hmmm, was that just the bolt or the complete kit with washer and nylon lock nut? I'm getting the complete kit for 50c/unit at Brofasco, so far they are the cheapest I found here in the area.

I also buy from Kaman. My employer does a fair amount of business there and they give me a discount. I needed some transfer case bearings for a Tucker and they were significantly cheaper than NAPA.

Last year I was shopping for some seals and got good pricing from Dalton Bearing: http://www.daltonbearing.com/

They were also significantly cheaper than NAPA.

The 2788 bearings finally came . It took Southwest Wheel 2 weeks to ship them (without bothering to contact me). Price $16.70 each Timkin USA.

I had the numbers wrong.... it's 16 a side, 32 in all.

Still waiting for the seals. The ones I found in it were similar to the Bombardier ones but instead of being all rubber, have a stainless steel shell and SS fingers instead of coil springs. Made by Garlock Klosure. $20-25 each. ( 63x1057) They make regular wheel seals look flimsy but I can see that one was slightly damaged at the last installation.

My bolts were 12 cents each. Nuts were cheap, too. I bought grade 5.

I also went with grade 5 but hot dip galvanized. Same for the washers but I used the wise words of a forum member and used nylock nuts.

Good luck with the bearings! Are you replacing cups and cones?

It's been tough to decide whether to replace both cups and cones or not.
They look OK. No noticeable wear. They are Koyo or something. Replacing everything would cost about $400

Since my new track will be the overlap type instead of continuous belt and therefor easier to undo, I've decided to replace the cones on the 2 rear wheels and 2 front wheels with Timkin and leave everything else. I don't know if this is a good plan or not.

Update !

I finally called Prinoth and thier prices on the bearings and cups was the best !
Timkin brand.

The Bombardier wheel seals were $19.01.

I live in Colorado and I've used 3 different places for bearings and seals.

US Bearings & Drives
3999 Holly St. Unit 1
Denver, CO 80207
303-953-6760 Parts man is named Mike

Whisler Industrial Supply
3399 N. Cascade Ave.
Colorado Springs, CO 80907
719-475-7217

Pueblo Bearing Service
420 N. Elizabeth Ave.
Pueblo, CO 81003
719-544-0583

If you are near any large cities, check the yellow pages under bearings. Since they
sell lots of them, the prices should be lower. NAPA is higher because they
don't sell as many bearings.
Pueblo Bearing is probably a local business. But the other 2 are multiple store
companies, so you may find one locally.
