Hey! That's near me! Ontario. 415,598 sq. mi. and 436 beer stores! Beer Store is a government-run place where you buy beer. You can't buy it anywhere except a government store - not at grocery stores or variety stores. Standard price for all beer. If the brewery lowers its price or has a sale, it has a sale across the province. There is a minimum price that the brewery is able to sell beer to consumers. All of the bottle recycling dropoff is done at the beer store. Every bottle sold from there has a $.10 deposit on it refundable when it's returned. The beer store is nice because you can be in a desolate place and still get a good variety of beer. It sucks because you can be in a desolate place and not have a beer store around for hundreds of miles.

I suspect the beer would be cheaper if it wasn't government run and heavily taxed.

Just my suspicion though.
The cheapest beer here is $24 a case, or a buck a bottle. It's advertised as being "only a buck a beer". And with our exchange that's almost $22 US for 24.

Liquor and Tobacco are very heavily taxed - our "sin" taxes. I heard that Toronto may be getting the power to add their own additional taxes. City consumer taxes! Only in Canada.
