what would you want in a new personal access snow cat

Snowtrac Nome

member formerly known as dds
I know this has been addressed before but what features would some of you want to see in a new snow cat for utility use or remote access. Me I'm kind of thinking a full rubber track something larger than an imp but smaller than a 601 a mechanical differential with an automatic transmission and diesel power. I would like to see a top speed around 25 to 30 mph a low cabin noise and a good heater. the cab should be easily converted from pick up style to a carryall configuration and lastly it should fit between the fenders of a drop deck car hauler trailer. overall ground pressure I would like to see between 1/2 psi and 3/4 psi. am I missing any thing No Allen I wont add wood grousers and a wet bar so I can be comfortable waiting for help. also what would some one likely pay for something like this as far as use for an access rig.

For a PERSONAL ACCESS snowcat:
No wider than 7', No longer than 15', capable of fitting on a car hauler
Weight under 4000#, 3000# would be even better
Seats 4 or more + has room for gear inside
Short cargo bed
Auto Transmission
Capable of towing a trailer equal to 2/3rds its own weight
Rubber tracks would be nice, 2 tracks preferred over 4 but not a deal breaker
Being in the midwest, 1psi ground pressure is fine, we have crusty snow instead of powder

They do make it but they are called a Argo. The new ones are about that size. And you can get some darn good aftermarket tracks for them. Hard tops soft tops What ever you want. Heaters or what ever you would like to deck it out with.
I do not know about the bar. But they do say money can buy anything. I think one all decked out is about 30K. Could be more ??
I think there is one made in the states called the mud ox. One thing about these 8x8s, is you can get very good track system for them now.
I am sorry PLEASE FOR GIVE ME. I know they are not called a snow cat:whistling:
Again I know its not a tucker But its lighter easer to tow. Takes me farther in the mountains then the tucker did. It will carry 6 but 4 with lots of room, :big grin: And its a boat. but I will go farther then other boats:yum:

Oh one more thing It does not mind getting its nose in the snow :whistling:
I actually consider the ARGO and similar machines to be a very viable alternative to a personal snowcat, when properly decked out and outfitted. May not be a great deep powder machine, but I'm not living in powder country so that is not an issue for me.

What are those 2 basket like things on the lower-rear of your Argo?

By the way Allen, did you keep your 323? That is such an unusual and interesting old machine.

I have that same track system on one of mine they work in the mud better because of the open design and clean themselves out. Also helps with slush so it does not stay in the track which is something the all rubber ones do robbing HP
Of course mine are not as pretty and powder coated blue

Yes I still do have the 232 I just have not found the time yet to restore it.
The two baskets are for snowshoes and what ever will fit. It helps to keep the inside more open .
I have it all ready for winter but this year we have not had anything in the way of snow. Its been just to warn here. Where I would be ridding in ten feet of snow by now we have maybe 6 Inch. Send us some snow please

We got 32" of snow in January. Then 6" yesterday. We have a new storm coming in on Tuesday that, if it all comes together, could drop 16" to 24" of snow on us before it stops late Wednesday. So we are starting out the year with some nice snowfalls.

And if you get around to restoring the 323 please please please start of a thread and provide plenty of photos. That is a Tucker that I would love to see restored again. Its too rare to let it sit.
