Young Buck
Please do not take this post as b***ing and complaining, because it is not...I am genuinely seeking opinions.
I am a college student and for the meantime I work at "Big Box" Home Improvement Warehouse (the blue one - not to mention any names). I work in an outdoor building materials yard there, we stock and load anything major high-ticket or heavy items from every department in the store except the paint department - the work isn't really that hard but our department (specifically my supervisor and I) are charged with nearly every back-end operations task to keep the place running as well. Here is my last week or so of work.
Last Saturday - 4 guys scheduled, 2 end up working
Last Sunday - 3 guys scheduled, 2 end up working. I am personally guaranteed by 2nd Highest Manager overtime for the week but I can only stay for extra hours on this day. Worked 7am-8pm with no breaks.
Monday-Thursday - everything thing is great, department coverage is great and there is plenty of people readily available to help us out.
Friday - Short, Short Day for me. Scheduled 4:30-9:30. Summoned less than an hour after I get there and they tell me I must punch out for a half hour lunch (which I don't take on 5 hour shifts) and I have to leave at 9:00pm so I don't go over 40.00 hours for that week ------Wasn't that overtime guaranteed?!?!? People all over the store sent home for same reason.
Saturday - 4 People scheduled, 1 guy ends up working (me, 7am-7pm) but another guy comes in on his day off to help me out so essentially 2.
Today - 3 people scheduled, I'm scheduled off for the day but I go in to help out even though I don't have to - figured I'd have a nice, easy but productive day. Nope! Walk in the front door with a manager kissing my rear while telling me the opener called off. Get a call 30 mins later from same manager - 1st 10-7 Person hasn't made it back from vacation and still in Filthadelphia. The 2nd 10-7 Person never showed up or called. I worked 8am-6pm by myself.
Sorry guys (and gals) just frustrated as hell. Should I be asking for a raise? Asking to be transferred to a different department? Demanding full-time status? These messed up weekends are a consistent thing and not just these past two weeks.
