just curious to know what the engineering is behind the Argo transmission

and how it differs from a conventional snow cat with band brake type

steering?

The Argo never used the Borg Warner T-20, but rather their parent company "Ontario Drive and Gear" designed and built the Argo transmission starting in the '70s. The Argo transmission is a brake-steer differential transmission. There are brake discs on both output shafts. Pulling the steering levers controls relative amount of output power to the outputs. I don't know much about the T-20 except to say that it uses planetary gearing and steering bands somehow.
