What is the future of USAID?

Hey there, folks!

I recently came across this article talking about what's going on with USAID and how the Trump administration's policy changes are shaking things up in the world of international aid. It got me concerned by a few important things. With programs for diseases like malaria and HIV winding down, along with cuts to education and human rights assistance, there could be some serious fallout in terms of humanitarian issues. What do you think the social ramifications will be? And how might it impact migration and security in areas where these programs were a big deal?

It's a situation that is particularly tricky in the Balkans, where the nation is facing instability and tough times financially. Without that help from international groups, things could get even more dicey.

. . . With programs for diseases like malaria and HIV winding down,

These programs are NOT winding down, they were transferred to the State Department and continue to operate.

This has been publicly reported.

Do not spread false rumors.

I have close personal friends in Nigeria. They are dual citizen American/Nigerian. They operate a large children's hospital in Lagos.

They are THRILLED that these USAID payments have stopped.

They told me most of the money goes to GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS and doesn't actually end up with the people. Also there is a lot of social "DEI" stuff that is counter-cultural to the local Africans.

Perhaps if you were more explicit in what programs you were talking about we could be more specific about things getting "more dicey" and in what way they might?

I can tell you that USAID was used to fund the Balkan "color revolution" which was trying to overthrow the elected governments. So seems like eliminating it might actually make the area MORE STABLE.

I deleted my original response. No point replying to someone that posts things without looking at the facts first. Is this a bot?

Not sure if it is a bot or not.

Clearly uninformed on details, regardless.

I have no problem engaging with facts.

The original post is mostly just platitudes and lacks any real information. Assuming it is a person, the person seems to only know headlines from MSNBC and similar sources of disinformation/partial truths. The best lies are often concealed in partial truths so it is true that USAID is terminated. It is true that many people didn't understand the ramifications of that termination. What is also true, but was left unsaid, perhaps intentionally to mislead people, is that the legitimate medical and food programs are still occurring, but they are now run by the State Department.

As for the rest of the drivel in the post . . . pretty much pointless. But I'm open for debate if the member would like to cite sources and evidence.

I believe you pretty well schooled the newbie it what is acceptable here on FF's. Still, I hope the y continue to post.
It is always good to hear opposing views. Half truths and propaganda have a short life here.
But contributions are always accepted for polite analysis and review.
In fact, they are welcomed.
It is why we come here.
