Gone But Not Forgotten
At the local shelter the wife and I volunteer at they were needing space for kittens that had outgrown their cages. I built a room out of wire and lumber that the cats can get lots of sun and have a big play area. The window was an after thought so I ended up building it into the end wall to help block wind from the door opening and it will let folks wanting to adopt have a clear view of the cats. Added some handrails and cupboards for supplies in the main area. Finished this and moved over to a shed they needed to convert to an isolation area for cats just coming in till they get their shots as well as others coming back from surgery. they got these cages from another shelter that was remodeling and since they sat there since last spring I took on the job of building some racks for them. The hardest part was sealing up the osb sheeting on the inside of the shed. Took 2 coats of Kilz primer and a finish coat of bathroom enamel to make a good and washable surface. We got a propane wall heater with a thermopile stat so the temp can be maintained when it is in use. Had 4 cats come back from Cornell university for surgery as the first occupants yesterday. Glad to have it done as snowplowing will be right around the corner. Now I can get back to the wife's new greenhouse!
