wet snow problems in tracks

has anyone dealt with the problem of wet snow building up in tracks? The wet stuff just doesn't get thrown out and builds up causing ice and tight tracks. while Talking with lyndon yesterday he was saying it is a common problem with most machines.

It happens to my Muskeg but I hadn't noticed a change in track tension.

With the design of the cleats on our machine. Wet snow is a pain. I left one night in the middle of the night when temps were around -15. By lunch time, the temps rose drastically to above freezing. Snow filled up inside the cleats and made traction very difficult when climbing.

First picture is when temps were above freezing with wet snow. Second picture is from a previous run with colder temps. Notice the snow buildup in the cleats.

Don't know how long it will last on cleats but Fluid Film is good stuff for snowplows to release the snow.

I did a weekend meet with 2 other snow trac's near white pass in washington and we were in lots of wet snow and didn't have any problems. I think I was maybe going to slow??? . This was a photo during the meet.

i can simpithise with you we have dropped our muskeg carrier thru the ice lots of times while trying to freeze down ice roads and it is a terrible job to clean out the ice, slush ,and mud before it freeze solid . takes a very dedicated operator to stop and clean tracks and iddlers instead of just keep on going .........

I think am also having a tightness problem . The track is usually loose or very tight. Look at my spring compression . The track tension is adjusted the same on both.
could it be that part of my trouble is my 50yr old springs may be tired?

ok jim i have been there my self first you have to coast the vehicle to a stop going streight to prpperly check tension if you have any power or steer it will alter your precieved track tension also take a look at the u-bolts attaching the springs to the sponson bars the block under them is wedged with the tall side to the front also also if these u- bolts come loose and the springs ride flat you will apply more pressure to the front boggie trucks

wht dont you guys use hagglunds? extremehagglunds.com enjoy the videos Bill
the us government can't afford to keep their fleet going and my pockets arn't as deep as theirs also i'm the rare member who has had time with both vehicles bv's and st's the st cst's about 1/10 the money per mile to run that the bv does and run's 1 psi less ground pressure that the bv does your modds are cool but i believe the price is out of reach of the average guy trying to get to his cabin.
