welding on electronic snowcat

my seat mounts to the body are starting to crack. I just noticed them when putting in a radio and haven't checked yet on what type of fix it will need.
under the cab I can see 1" cracks at the location of the seat on the top on all the seat welded floor mounts. They are not bad yet but just small starting cracks.
what is the deal with welding on newer stuff that is electronic?
it is 04 pistenbully canyon.

I've welded on many vehicles, and just put the ground clamp as close as possible to the weldment. But there is nothing wrong with pulling the negative or even both battery terminals.

Any photos of your new cat?

Jim Mac tools makes a protective device you can clamp on to a battery to protect the system. it not only protects the system from arcs but also the emf that builds up around the vehicle when welding. some folks like to remove the battery termanals before welding, I don't see how that would help, you would be better off to remove all the ecm's and store them in another room than do your welding as a side note I have yet to be bit by ensuring I have a good ground connection I have welded on hundreds of computer cars batterys hooked up and all with no ecm losses knock on wood.

I want to add this canyon is setup like a car and you use a code readed when engine warning lights turns on.
Maybe I can bolt a plate top and bottom . When i get it home i will post a few pictures.
thanks

I weld on my Pisten Bullys and excavation equipment by simply disconnecting both battery terminals with no ill effects. Call Tech Services at Pisten Bully, they are super helpful and it's free!! (775) 857-5030

Me thinks that dds guy knows his shiite. I'm with him. Disconnect battery - good ground close to the weld and have at her. After all, it's only money. They're still making snow cats. ;)

Also, its a good idea to stop drill the end of the crack to a nice clean hole and weld it up.
I have welded several things on electronic controlled vehicles also. Just be careful where the wires are routed so you dont melt a harness on the backside or blow through thin material and hit it with a hot piece of welding wire.

As long as you grind a good clean spot to ground to as close as possible to where you weld you will be fine. Unhooking the battery won't hurt either.

I got a slider to hot once and it didn't slide any more good thing it was all the way back where I like it. I Also set things on fire some times (self not excluded) so I like to keep a big co2 extinguisher near. I also chase the dog off cause they like to stare at the pretty blue light. As for electronics on PB I don't know a thing. good luck

Save yourself a some time and potentially expensive repairs by disconnecting the batteries and unplugging the wire harness's from the CPU they are made to unplug easily (kinda) getting at them is generally the hard part. Then drill grind and weld tell hell
won't have it knowing that you covered you ass.

as I said before I have hundreds of hours welding with everything hooked up. if I had a potentially hard to get or expensive module. I would just remove it and store it in another room. with welding it's an electro magnetic field around the object you are welding that will do the damage also welders are loaded with amps but not voltage aside from tigs that can also use high frequency.

I usually like welding but this time this is what we did.
braced the seat. look close and you can see only 1" weld on each corner.

this is the underside. the second brace in behind the bar with the wire ties. Cracks are small at each end of brace.

hi guys....i am a welder for 23 years and all you have to do is remove the battery lugs and put the welding ground onto or as close as possible to what you are welding. hope i can help anyone sometime...
