Watch your frequent flyer miles...

I just received a notice from US Airways that I've forfeited all my frequent flyer miles because I haven't flown with them for the past 18 months.

I can get them back if I pay them $200 or take a first-class flight by the end of November. (I need to call back about the first-class to confirm as he zipped by it and I didn't even realize he said it until after the call ended).

I don't know what other carriers are doing but this pisses me off since it's been their policy that their miles never expire (which is a primary reason for me using them).

So, I've lost all loyalty or preference for this carrier. HEY USAIRWAYS - :finger2: :angry3:

Not even a notice up front that they would be gone, so that you would have a chance to use them? That is low. How much did you have coming to you?

No upfront notice other than stating it on my monthly statement (saying they're gone and giving me the 2 mentioned options for getting them back).

I only had about 30,000 miles (enough for 1 flight). I was over 250,000 miles. That really would have pissed me off if I lost all of those.

Mrs. Zoom and the kids also have FF numbers but since our vacations only have us using air travel about once every 2 years, I guess all these miles are now worthless.

Most seem to have "miles don't expire" in the initial applicaton. However, later you receive an "amendment" to the original terms which states that your miles will indeed expire. I've gotten those amended notices from Northworst, Delta and Amerikan.

I don't recall receiving any "amendment". As the customer service representative told me "Terms are subject to change without notice".

I do have a flight scheduled for November so I'll get them back. Unfortunately, I can't get them back beforehand so I can use the miles for seat upgrades. I did talk with them again and a first-class seat isn't required.
