Washington Times: Biden may be forced to go to war in the Middle East

Joe Biden, like his predecessor Donald Trump, tried in every possible way to avoid US involvement in the war in the Middle East, The Washington Times writes. However, as the publication notes, against the backdrop of strikes on US bases, including the recent one that claimed the lives of three US servicemen, such a conflict may be imposed on the head of the White House.

I would like to believe that the conflict in the Middle East will not be the beginning of the Third World War, in which the countries of the West and the East will be involved. Otherwise, humanity will face a very difficult time.

Will we become participants in a new world war?o_O

US Launches Airstrikes On Eastern Syria & Iraq, Significant Casualties Reported

Update(1640ET): The Biden administration has begun its much anticipated retaliatory strikes:
FIRST US MILITARY RETALIATORY STRIKES UNDERWAY IN SYRIA: ABC
Regional analyst Kevork Almassian comments as this initial wave of attacks begins: "The US air force is bombing Eastern Syria near al-Mayadeen. Syria is a sovereign country which has not attacked the United States. A clear violation of international law." US B1 bombers have been involved, according to officials. Initial unconfirmed footage from the region:
The Department of Defense has since suggested the initial eastern Syria strikes which were first reported might be the work of a partner air force, possibly Israel(?). There are a number of reports suggesting Israel is participating as a partner force. Additionally:
  • Initial report of a US attack against targets in the Deir ez-Zor area on the Syria-Iraq border.
  • US Official confirms strikes occurring in Iraq and Syria. “8 targets is just first of many courses” so far
  • Reuters, citing American officials: “The strikes targeted facilities in Iraq and Syria linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups that it supports.”
  • Start time was about 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
The administration appears to have waited until market close on Friday to start bombing.
Significant casualties are being reported, and will likely trickle out through the evening.
Confused messaging coming from Biden administration and mainstream reports...

But Saudi Arabia may be helping to ring the peace bells?

Israeli 'commitment' to Palestinian state would bring Saudi peace

FEBRUARY 2, 2024 11:26
Saudi Arabia would be willing to accept a political commitment from Israel to create a Palestinian state, rather than anything more binding, in a bid to get a defense pact with Washington approved before the US presidential election, three sources said.
Months of US-led diplomacy to get Saudi Arabia to normalize relations with Israel and recognize the country for the first time were shelved by Riyadh in October in the face of mounting Arab anger over the war in Gaza.
But Saudi Arabia is increasingly keen to shore up its security and ward off threats from rival Iran so the kingdom can forge ahead with its ambitious plan to transform its economy and attract huge foreign investment, two regional sources said.

Saudi Arabia to accept Israeli 'political commitment'

To create some wiggle room in talks about recognizing Israel and to get the US pact back on track, Saudi officials have told their US counterparts that Riyadh would not insist Israel take concrete steps to create a Palestinian state and would instead accept a political commitment to a two-state solution, two senior regional sources told Reuters.
Such a major regional deal, widely seen as a long-shot even before the Israel-Hamas war, would still face numerous political and diplomatic obstacles, not least the uncertainty over how the Gaza conflict will unfold.

A pact giving the world's biggest oil exporter US military protection in exchange for normalization with Israel would reshape the Middle East by uniting two long-time foes and binding Riyadh to Washington at a time when China is making inroads in the region.
A normalization deal would also bolster Israel's defenses against arch-rival Iran and give US President Joe Biden a diplomatic victory to vaunt ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election.
The Saudi officials have privately urged Washington to press Israel to end the Gaza war and commit to a "political horizon" for a Palestinian state, saying Riyadh would then normalize relations and help fund Gaza's reconstruction, one of the regional sources said. . .

US Strikes At Least 85 Targets In Iraq & Syria, Including From B1 Bombers

Update(1715ET): Importantly, there have been no reports of US airstrikes in Iran this evening, and US officials say that the Pentagon does not plan to hit targets inside the Islamic Republic. But the strikes on eastern Syria and in Iraq were large. According to a CENTCOM statement, the initial wave, which started at 4pm US Eastern Time (interestingly, just after markets closed), included over 85 targets, with some of them hit more than once:
At 4:00 p.m. (EST) Feb. 02, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militia groups. U.S. military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from United States.
The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions. The facilities that were struck included command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, rockets, and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities of militia groups and their IRGC sponsors who facilitated attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces.
The Biden administration is promising this is not the end of it, and the campaign could last for days or more.

So to go back to your original post.

I disagree with the part in BOLD about Joe Biden "tried in every possible way . . . "

In fact I believe that President Biden actually is the CAUSE of all the hostility in the middle east with his foreign policies. He has enriched the Iranian government in multiple ways with various policies. Iran is the world's #1 supplier of cash and arms to terrorist groups.

  • Biden released $6+ BILLION dollars in siezed assets to Iran
  • Biden sat on his hands while HUNDREDS of attacks have been levied against US Troops and installations took place, it was only today, after we recovered the bodies of 3 soldiers did he launch retaliation. Biden's hands are covered with their blood.
  • Biden alienated the Saudi government which is a chief balancing force to Iran in the middle east
  • Biden ended an alliance with the Saudi government that was aligned against the Houthis in Yemen and all of a sudden the Houthis started shooting ships. . . . coincidence?
  • Biden's blundering of foreign relations now allows IRAN to sell oil directly to Russia and China
  • Biden altered the SWIFT banking agreements to allow IRAN to access funds in international trade
  • Biden removed multiple terrorist groups from the terrorists classifications, and even now he still has not put the Houthis back on the terrorist classification list, he put them on a list of groups to watch, but imposes zero sactions
  • Biden restored US funding to the UN group for Palestine, knowing the group is tied to Hamas, and only after Israel proved beyond reasonable doubt that actually UN employees participated in the Oct 7th murders/kidnappings in Israel did Biden suspend funding for the group

I could go on, but the list is too long to spew out here.

I'd also mention that his policies screwed up the Ukraine/Russia balance and caused the Russian invasion.
And it sure looks like his international weakness is leading to an invasion of Taiwan (free China) by mainland (f-ing commie) China.

BTW, where in Ukraine?

One of the fencing students I coach at Purdue is from Kharkiv.

The girl we call our adopted daughter is Russian/Ukrainian and the family lived in Kiev. Her grandpa has a hotel in/near Bukovel.

Great Britain joined the USA in 36 new military strikes today, this time against the Houthi rebels in Yemen. This is in addition to the 85 targets they attacked yesterday in Syria and Iraq.

US, Britain Strike Yemen’s Houthis in New Wave, Retaliating for Attacks by Iran-Backed Militants

AP3 Feb 2024
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States and Britain struck 36 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday in a second wave of assaults meant to further disable Iran-backed groups that have relentlessly attacked American and international interests in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war. But Washington once more did not directly target Iran as it tries to find a balance between a forceful response and intensifying the conflict.
The latest strikes against the Houthis were launched by U.S. warships and American and British fighter jets. The strikes follow an air assault in Iraq and Syria on Friday that targeted other Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for the drone strike that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan last weekend.
The Houthi targets were in 13 different locations and were struck by U.S. F/A-18 fighter jets from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier, by British Typhoon FGR4 fighter aircraft and by the Navy destroyers USS Gravely and the USS Carney firing Tomahawk missiles from the Red Sea, according to U.S. officials and the U.K. Defense Ministry. The U.S. officials were not authorized to publicly discuss the military operation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. warned that its response after the soldiers’ deaths at the Tower 22 base in Jordan last Sunday would not be limited to one night, one target or one group. While there has been no suggestion the Houthis were directly responsible, they have been one of the prime U.S. adversaries since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages. The Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza said that more than 26,000 people have been killed and more than 64,400 wounded in the Israeli military operation since the war began.
The Houthis have been conducting almost daily missile or drone attacks against commercial and military ships transiting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and they have made clear that they have no intention of scaling back their campaign despite pressure from the American and British campaign.
Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a Houthi official, said “military operations against Israel will continue until the crimes of genocide in Gaza are stopped and the siege on its residents is lifted, no matter the sacrifices it costs us.” He wrote online that the “American-British aggression against Yemen will not go unanswered, and we will meet escalation with escalation.”
The Biden administration has indicated that this is likely not the last of its strikes. The U.S. has blamed the Jordan attack on the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias. Iran has tried to distance itself from the drone strike, saying the militias act independently of its direction.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that the military action, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, “sends a clear message to the Houthis that they will continue to bear further consequences if they do not end their illegal attacks on international shipping and naval vessels.”
He added: “We will not hesitate to defend lives and the free flow of commerce in one of the world’s most critical waterways.”
The Defense Department said the strikes targeted sites associated with the Houthis’ deeply buried weapons storage facilities, missile systems and launchers, air defense systems, radars and helicopters. The British military said it struck a ground control station west of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, that has been used to control Houthi drones that have launched against vessels in the Red Sea.
President Joe Biden was briefed on the strikes before he left Delaware on Saturday for a West Coast campaign trip, according to an administration official.
The latest strikes marked the third time the U.S. and Britain had conducted a large joint operation to strike Houthi weapon launchers, radar sites and drones. The strikes in Yemen are meant to underscore the broader message to Iran that Washington holds Tehran responsible for arming, funding and training the array of militias — from Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and the Houthis in Yemen — who are behind attacks across the Mideast against U.S. and international interests.
Video shared online by people in Sanaa included the sound of explosions and at least one blast was seen lighting up the night sky. Residents described the blasts as happening around buildings associated with the Yemeni presidential compound. The Houthi-controlled state-run news agency, SABA, reported strikes in al-Bayda, Dhamar, Hajjah, Hodeida, Taiz and Sanaa provinces.
Hours before the latest joint operation, the U.S. took another self-defense strike on a site in Yemen, destroying six anti-ship cruise missiles, as it has repeatedly when it has detected a missile or drone ready to launch. The day before the strikes the U.S. destroyer Laboon and F/A-18s from the Eisenhower shot down seven drones fired from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen into the Red Sea and the destroyer Carney shot down a drone fired in the Gulf of Aden and U.S. forces took out four more drones that were prepared to launch.
