What I know about the lathe
4 identical lates of this style came out of a high school located in the Cleveland, Ohio area because the parents of students were pressuring the school to go to more modern CNC machines.
The fellow that I purchased it from bought all 4 and decided to keep one for himself.
While the owner was out of town he had a friend who lives in PA run 3 of the machines at eBay. The guy must not have had a lot of eBay savy as he listed all three lathes on the same day with a $0.99 starting bid and with no reserve.
Since he didn't know squat about the lathes his description left a LOT to be desired which also most likely drove a few folks off.
I figured this was an opportunity of a liftime so I set up auction Sniper to place a maximum bid of $650. on each machine as the auction ended untill I was sucessfi=ul on at least one auction. Well I missed the first machine as it went for $950.00 Then I missed the second machine as it went for $810.00 and by the time the 3rd auction ended the
big money was already spent and I took the 3rd machine for a high bid of $513.00 !!
HOLY CRAP!!
But wait there's more! as they say on TV
When I went to get the lathe he gave me the following:
A 12" three jaw Cam-lock lathe chuck.
A 12" four jaw Cam-lock lathe chuck.
The T wrench
A left, right, & center toolpost holder.
A small faceplate
And a large faceplate.
The lathe and all the mechanisms are tight and without backlash. I have already pulled the covers on all the gear-boxes and the gears are all spotless and in like-new condition.
The way I see this is that the lathe plus tooling cost about 12 cents a pound. Think I did good? Damn I love eBay!
I'll post a picture once I get the lathe cleaned up a bit.
Bob Skurka I don't really know what the hell I'm gonna do with it. Putter, play, maybe just for giggles dunno. But for the price I paid I'll never lose a penny if and when I do decide to sell it. Check out the prices of these bad boys at the South Bend web site and you're sure to get
real sticker shock.
Anyone need me to make them any magnesium hubs for a 747 Jumbo Jet?
