Vonage phone service, good or bad?

Now that I have high speed internet I'm thinking of switching to Vonage to cut my phone bill in half.
Anyone else using Vonage? What are your thoughts on VOIP service? (VOIP = Voice over IP).
 
Yes, they've solved that issue. They are able to register your new number with your local 911 service.

I did have to change my number though.
I wonder if the new number which is completely different from current local number will be long distance for others in my local? Didn't think to ask that question.
I should have the device in 5 days, so I'll know more then.

Interesting....I could get the minimum package for $14.99 which includes 500 minutes per month. I pay about $30 per month now for the absolute minimum with only local service. I don't think I have used 500 minutes in the entire 5 years we have lived here.

edit: That $30 per month includes all taxes and fees, os I'm not sure how the $15 from Vonage stacks up.

I went for the 24.99 package. Can call Canada, 5 Europian countries and all of US for free. I didn't know about the 500 minute option. If it's 500 per month ...we'd never go over that. My wife doesn't like gabbing on the phone. :D :thumb:

My total monthly bill with taxes and excise fees is right at 30 dollars. Much cheaper than I'm currently paying for local service.
 
Our neighbor has the one from our cable company, he likes it, but we have trouble understanding them...............could be his junk phone.

we dont even have home phones, we use cells exclusively, we did not have good local service here, could not even call the next town. If I did not pay for my kids phone and my mothers, we would pay about 60.00 a month.............
