As we all on here have voted tonight - and are well aware of the PRIVILEGE to do so, my daughter who is now 18, who COULD vote, was late from work tonight. I had hopes that she voted. Nope.. When she got home I asked her: "Did you vote?"
She yelled back: "I don't have time to vote!!!!"
I failed as a parent:hammer: All her life, she grew up with me on top of the election night coverage.
I always have taught her that voting is important.
Doesen't matter really... cuz the ones that do have time did vote.
:clap::clap:

They don't grasp the importance of it at that age. Wait till she starts paying more taxes and her vision will clear.

Don't feed her, tell her you don't have time to support her because of the new taxes, and you have to rent her room out for extra income to pay them... All because she didn't vote, but tell her you love her just the same...:flowers:

Don't be sad. She'll get wiser as the policies of the past two years start to affect her personally.

Let me just say this. I just finished working the election in our precinct. Normally, in a nothing type of election, we have 250 to 400 voters. In the last general election we had almost 800 voters. This election just finished we had 3 votes short of 1,000. We had families coming in to vote together, father, mother and 2 at home children. The feeling that I took away from the polls was that people are angry, angry enough to motivate them to get out in the rain and vote and to ensure that their children get out and vote, many for the first time. In 2008, when I worked that election, it was obvious that many of the first time voters were on the Obama bubble and voting Democrat. Not so this time. It doesn't bode well for the Democrats.

The talking heads are claiming that the Dem's losing almost 60 seats in the House is not really a "Tidal Wave", talk about denial...

All my life I grew up watching my father abuse alcohol (an example is an example), but none of his 5 sons turned out that way, in spite of his example. You didn't fail as a parent, your daughter just didn't see your passion as being something she wants to embrace at this point in your life. Right now it appears that WORK is the more important to her.

You didn't fail her, she failed you. The young 20somethings (I'm still a 20 something for 59 days!) just don't get it.

I respectfully (?) disagree. She has not experienced enough of life to appreciate the priveledge of voting as a means of getting your voice heard. Two out of three of my kids didn't vote either. They said it wouldn't matter if they voted or not. The eldest (31) has enough on the line with two houses and a baby on the way, and she voted before going to work.

Everyone develops/matures at a different pace. We still need to give good examples so they have something to grab onto when the time comes that politics begins to effect their lives in a personal way. She just needs more time, and no child should ever be given up on.
