TV Sound Bar?

My Dad recently asked me to hook up some speakers to his TV since he doesn't like the sound coming out the rear of the TV as he needs to crank it up too loud.

So, I'm thinking of getting him a TV Sound Bar. I'm looking for a simple connect, no receiver or any other equipment. HDMI from TV to speaker, the end.

Looking around at reviews, the VIZIO VHT215 is rated highly.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a Samsung hooked to a Samsung TV. I don't care for it too much. There is a slight delay between the movement of people's lips and the sound. If you are watching something closely, like an interview, it can get annoying. This unit also has a wireless bass that you can put anywhere in the room. I finally turned that thing off because it was just too distracting with all that noise coming from behind you, or from the floor by the TV.

Bottom line, I would not purchase another one.

Best thing that ever happened to my TV watching was a Sony wireless headphones I picked up at a yard sale. Others can set the volume however they want it and I can set mine where I need it.

Bob, check your audio settings on your tv. There should be an audio sync function to get your speaker in tune with the motion on the tv.

My new flat TV had such terrible audio I had to purchase one of these, too.

I got the "cheap" one from Best Buy: iLive. I think it was about $80. It works fine and sounds a million times better than the little tinny sounding speakers in the TV.

The only down side is it is not compatible with my DirecTV remote.
