Turning problem

I only have power to the Left track. The variator is working as it should when the steering wheel is turned. None of the variator parts of the bracket is broke. There was no poping or sound it just would not go straight or turn left.

look at your front chain sprockets and the drive hub on the brass track sprockets the metal was quite soft in those 2 components and prone to stripping out both mine were on their way south I was able to save it with a super epoxy from belzona if they are stripped there are several ways to fix them ranging from keying the shaft to putting in slugs in half moon slots cut in both pieces. what year is yours another problem I have seen is busted varriator shafts you will have to pop the belt loose to check that lastly take a look at the little steel part where all the varriator stuff pivots have some one gently work the wheel makes shure nothing is broken there almost every one I have seen up here has been broke at 1 time or another

the S/N 2072 And the seller told me it was a ST4B but the Plate reads ST4 , but it had 32" tracks, now cut down to 20"Thanks for the info. I had thought that it might be a broken axle, but did not here any pops or grinding when it happened but that is not always the case. I will inspect the variator closer as soon as i get it in the shop.
Again thanks for the info

the wide track model is an st-4 b most likely it is a stripped out at the brake hub pull the belt loose and power up the transmission the power will divert to the axle that is stripped or broken a si have had the splines wear you usually don't hear them let go

Are both chains installed? You should have a right chain and a left chain. Each runs power to the front drive axle/sprocket. Are both chains installed?

I have no snow master axles I could likely come up with a snow trac axle shaft. this summer I know a guy with snow master parts I may be able to get a hold of a shaft from him. his stash is about 300 miles air access only from me. if you look through some previous threads you will see some different solutions to the stripped slines on the axles

Yes both chains are installed. It was grooming the runway made a right turn and it would not go straight and would only turn right

if it will only run straight and turn right I would look at the piviot mounthttp://www.forumsforums.com/3_9/showthread.php?t=61220 here's a link to my thread where you need to inspect closely

HI DDS
It will only turn to the right. It does not have any power to the right track.
It must be a broken right axle.
If you know of one and it is 300 some air miles form you, If you could get me the info and contact info,I could fly up there myself and get it.
I am in Fairbanks area and it sounds like it would be just as easy for me to get there as for you
If possible thanks again for the help

ST4B #2072

you may need more than an axle if the axle splines are bad. usually it is the splines if your chain still turns. take the axle nut off and look.

the snow master stuff I know of is up in deering is your snow master a 4 band model with 2 bands removed or a 5 band model with 2 bands removed. also is yours the big wheel up front or or a set of small bogies in front if it's a big wheel model than I have access to a good hub for one but not an axle and I think all of vic's snow master stuff is for the 4 band tracks you really need to isolate the problem if as axle breakage is pretty rare. if you want to take a weekend and fly over I wouldn't object to taking a look at it with you.

I have a 5 band with 2 removed and it has a big wheel up front.
I think the axle that I need is frim the transaxle to the small chain drive sprocket.
I am going to have to pull the trans out and see.

an almost failure there is almost unheard of before pulling the trans axle pull off the varriator tower on that side inspect that shaft and the ring gear on the axle the gears are held in place with key stock maybe you just lost a key if its the key on the axle the trans will have to come out if it's some thing with the tower shaft it can be repaired in the machine
