Tucker Rollers: How I Make Mine.....

Wow,......... members are coming out of the woodwork, lately... sayin' "You make rollers??? Would you make ME some?"

Demand is high,..... (always HAS been, hasn't it)....... so I'm committing myself to make some more. (I'm almost out for MY Tucker..... so I need more, anyway).

I'm not there, yet... I'm working out logistics and trying to refine my process a little better, but here is a general giude on how I do this....................

These are examples of my FIRST attempt, I called these "emergency rollers". My good buddy Joe almost sent his (now mine) 442 to a junkyard because the tracks were falling off it. I made up a bunch of these to keep the Tucker alive.

I put my steel hockey-puck in the fixture and clamp it in. I cut the inner diameter, then the bearing races, then the largest outer diameter to insure that the outer diameter is concentric with the races.

I have another fixture that I finish the other side with. This works good if I have two open machines and can do both operations at the same time.

I can't use these, anymore. My parts are one solid piece. Tucker Sno Cat would install one of these from BOTH sides and then "Cap" the open end. I don't do that.

I use nylon dowels to separate the balls. This is good stuff: I can smash these dowels with a hammer and they won't shatter....... they just squish flat. The have been holding up in MY Tucker for several years now without issue.

Then I put an o-ring in there..... just to take up space.

It really doesn't do anything but push down on the washer that keeps the dowels in position.

I make the dirt cap, too. This pushes down on the o-ring. It helps keep the grease in..... but not extremely well. A lot of grease comes out..... but it keeps the dirt out. (Keep your Tucker out of the mud!!!)

I also do motorcycles, from time to time.

This is my daily driver. I paid $125.00 for the rolling chassis and put a 250cc 4-stroke dirt bike engine on it.

I love my one-lungers.

(My bike is small and blue..... so I decided my pin-up model should be, as well).

Special thanks to Jay P. Fosgitt, (my favorite comic book artist) for drawing her for me.

I knew you would come out of the closet sooner or later....
Wait that didnt come out right

Im glad your back
Just barely...... huge ice storm in my neighborhood. Been out of power for three days. Power came on for fifteen/twenty minutes, yesterday..... just long enough for me to reply to your post and order a carburetor for my Mother-In-Law's generator on eBay..... then it was out again. I'm replying to THIS post from work. I have a tiny 900-watt 2-stroke generator, MIL is giving me a 1000watt gen with a 4-stroke..... hasn't been used in a decade and carb is full of glue. (But a new carb is in-route).

MAYBE power will come back on, today.

..... (Will post pics of the devastation when power comes back).

Word on the street is My summer home took a pounding. It will be many more days before the power is back on *up north*, but folks there are not overly concerned. I know two of my generators are removed from my camp but they are helping keep freezers frozen. My battery system will be dead before i get back so i guess ill start pricing a furnace while im waiting for it to stop raining. Picture of tucker rollers for effect

Still no power on Thursday......... went to Lowes on Tuesday and bought a 6250watt generator. My little 900watt 2-stroke generator gave a valiant effort... but I had to have mercy on it. (And now I can run the whole house..... but just a single 'fridge and the TV).

The 2-stroke shall live to see another day.

Monday morning, I tried to get into town to go to work... but every road that is on my way was completely barricaded by broken poplars. I had to go home and get my chainsaw to cut my way through. I made the mistake of going into the house to tell Wifey about my experience and she begged and pleaded to get me to stay home so she wouldn't be alone amongst the nightmare that was unfolding around us.

I still ran into town, just to get some mixing oil for my generator... but I came right back to keep her company. I had been temporarily using 10W30 as 2-cycle oil. (It worked just fine,..... just smelled a little funny).

The ice all melted off Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Now the thousands of linemen in my area can stop chasing their tails and make some real progress.

Still running on the new generator. I disconnected the 220v in the shed (my air compressor) and I'm back-feeding current to the house. I killed the main breaker so I don't kill a Lineman. Still taking water home from work..... I don't really trust the new generator to power the well pump properly. And we're still using the wood stove..... there's plenty of wood in my neighborhood, right now. (Most of it is green... but not all).

We got it like that in 2015. Every road looked just like that and it was a task getting wires rehung before flipping the switch. The only real time we use our genny is in the spring for stuff like that. We only needed 5 hours this past Sunday before we were back online. (MUCH lighter ice than you guys). 2015 was a two week outage. A lot of people were freaking out, but I kind of like eating off of the wood stove . . . . the same way my grandmother cooked EVERY Sunday meal. Even with an electric stove right behind her in the kitchen.

As long as you aren't crazy with other stuff that 6k gen should run your pump fine. My 6.5K runs the fridge and well pump no problem. It would have to be crazy timing if they both decided to fire off at the same exact time. That would probably pop a breaker, but easily reset. Oven/stove is obviously a no go, and a coffee maker draws a surprising amount of juice. Make it and keep it warm on the wood stove. Other than that the 6K unit should give you close to life as normal.

Yep, power came back on for me 4-4 as well. I had the new generator back-feeding power into the house, with the "main" shut off..... we only heard that the power was back, from some of our neighbors on Facebook.

Next time..... we will turn our neighbors' front porch light on. (We provide security for our neighbors across the street, as well as lawn mowing/snow blowing. We have a key to their cottage). So when their porch light comes on, we will know that we can shut down the generator and turn the main back on.

The new construction looks like it's progressing quite well. Still has a long way to go. (Are they gettin' you to stay a little longer?)
