Tucker 543A windshield motor

Hi, I'm a new member of this forum. I have a 1972 Tucker 543A, which just keeps on running. A nice feature since I am no mechanic. Which brings me to my first question or problem. The windshield wipers seem to work fine, then just stop for awhile, then resume for no particular reason. Does anyone know if the wiper motor is electric or vacuum? How could I check? Any ideas on replacement parts also appreciated.

I'll try to post a picture of the beast when I figure out how to do that.

If it is electric it will have wires going to it, if it is vaccum, it will have a rubber hose going to it...

The vaccum wiper will slow down when you speed up and wipe faster when you let off on the gas.... it has to do with the manifold intake pressure, when you open the throtal by pressing down on the gas pedal, the vaccum disapears causing the wipers to slow down. When you let up on the gas pedal, the vaccum increases as the "Butterfly" in the carb closes, thus making the wiper speed up.

Electic will pretty much run at the same speed all the time. You may have some loose wires that are causing the motor to quit or the motor itself may be going out on you also.

Thanks for the replies and good advice. I am in contact with Tucker and they are looking up the history of my model re wiper history.

Yes, I do carry snowshoes in the Tucker, as well as some extra clothes, a chainsaw, and shovel. We had nine trees down across the road last year after a 24 inch dump of wet snow. I'll post some pics as soon as allowed.

Snowing here now, about 24 inch total at my cabin.
