Tucker 442/443 Transmission Mount

My tucker has no rear mount on the transmission and it seems like they don't. Do all the transmissions just hang off the bellhousing?

Looking at the prior work on my rig there was a crossmember of sorts but it has been long cut off.

Any advantage or disadvantage to adding one? Not even sure if it is possible on my np 435
 
None of mine (1979 and 1980 models) have had transmission mounts. All had 318 Industrial engines and one was a 4-speed/two were 5-speeds.

The bellhousings had a flange on each side as part of the casting. Those flanges were bolted to mounts welded on the Tucker's frame.
 
I have never seen a mount on the trans on any of the old Tuckers, they all hang off the bell housing. It is not a good idea to have a mount on it as stresses are then added to the engine-trans assembly when the frame flexes. The ideal mounting system is a three point which minimizes stresses from frame twist.
 
Makes sense. How about any rubber or padding between the frame mount and the bellhousinng mount?

Mine had 1/2 rubber cut and slapped in there. Any suggestions on what to put back in? This stuff is kind of old and dry rotted.
 
all commercial rigs are set up that way .on the larger Allison transmissions and road rangers there is a leaf spring across the top to help support the weight of those huge transmissions
 
Mystery of the cross member solved. I finished grinding and took down two chunks of metal that looked like an old mount cut off.

What it actually was is that this thing cracked in half right below the bell housing mounts. So I think the temp fix was these chunks of metal on the bottom then eventually they wrapped the top and out side of the frame with 1/4 steel.
