Truck Bed Cover

I would like to know your opinions about tri fold tonneau cover. My dad has been asking me about this product for weeks now but I can't say anything about it since I don't have one on my truck. Do you guys think that it will fit on a 2017 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali?

I don't own one, mine is a rolling cover, but one of my friends has a Bakflip MX4. He loves it. It sits flush and looks great. Aluminum backed, with nice vinyl top surface. LINK --> https://bakindustries.com/bakflip-mx4

My rolling cover is from the same company, the quality is very high on my cover. It holds 400# on the TOP of the cover! Essentially an armored rolling cover. If the trifold BakFlip is the same quality as my rolling cover then it is certainly top of the line construction. Not sure I'd buy another rolling cover but I would happily buy a try-fold from Bak Industries.

I have a Lomax tri-fold hard cover and love it.

It takes just a couple seconds to open it up and about a minute to totally remove it when desired. Coupled with the tailgate lock, it keeps the contents secured. Pretty darn water tight as well. What water I do get comes mainly from the gap between the bed and tailgate.

Just curious, but can you ride with all 3 panels open (which would block some of the rear window but allow access to 90% of the bed)? Or only 2 of the 3, folded onto the 3rd?

The panels open from the rear towards the front. You can ride with one or 2 open. They fold flat onto the third section and there's no visual obstruction when driving. Here's a couple pics from the website I linked to above.

To remove entirely, once folded as shown in the last picture of the previous post, you just pull a cord then lift the entire thing off. It does fit nicely when stood up vertically in the front of the bed or just pull it out of the truck altogether.

Thank you for the recommendations guys, I ended up getting the BakFlip MX4. I've seen a lot of great reviews about this product on the internet. Now I just have to wait for it to be shipped out. ?

I think you’ll be happy with it. Post photos when you get it

I thought about getting a trifold one. Right now I have a tonnopro roll up. Mine is getting a little worn. The roll up ones like mine seem to be prone to velcro failure over time. I do have a little tidbit piece of info for you. I got the tonno cover 7 yrs ago for my 07 f150. It fit perfectly on my 17 f150 which is the newer bodystyle.

My rolling cover is backed with interlocking aluminum slats, locks into the track, no use of velcro. It is made by BAK Industries, the same folks who make the Bak Flip MX4 that Colt purchased. It rolls up to the front window, giving me access to about 95% of the bed length. When it is rolled flat and locked into place it looks like vinyl cover. But it will hold 400# of (dispersed) weight on the top of the cover.

I like my cover a lot, it is easy and very secure. BUT my truck is parked in a garage most of the time, I would not recommend it for people who park outside because the rolling tracks are subject to freezing in snow/northern climates. Get some snow, have it partially melt, and then re-freeze and all of a sudden you can't get into the truck bed. It is not an issue for me, but it can be an issue for other. Consequently I recommend my cover, with that disclaimer.

The Bak Flip model is like BCs, except it fold up so all 3 panels are vertical and leaning against the rear cab window of the truck. Again, giving access to about 95% of the cargo box.

I bought a 2018 Toyota Tundra a month ago. The only disappointment to me was the bed cover. All other Tundras I had seen had the trifold one and that is what I expected on this truck.
The truck came with a roll up cover made by Access. It looks good. Is nice and tight, and I can open the tailgate without opening the bedcover. Here is a pic of the cover from the Access site, and one of mine from the other day after a we had a bit of rain.

The cover does hold water and I end up with water in the bed.
But today I had to haul something that did not fit under the cover. I rolled the cover up and it snaped closed nicely. So easy to get access to 99% of the bed area. After seeing how easy it is to roll up I'm not as quick to look to replace it. It does have the dreaded velcro. And also has a pole every couple of feet that help keep the cover tight. This cover would not hold 400 pounds ...or even 50 pounds, but I do not load stuff on top of the cover so that is not an issue to me. For now I'll make due with the Access cover. If the inside of the bed gets to wet that will get me to move on to a different cover.

Doc - I had an Access cover on my previous truck for 11 years without issue. Really liked it. For me, water got in the bed via the gap between the tailgate and the bed. They make a rubber sealing strip for that which I installed and it kept almost all of the water out.

I'm pretty sure the Lomax tri-fold I put on my new truck is also made by Access. I went with the hard cover since the new truck has a locking tailgate and I could therefore secure the bed contents.
