Roughwoods and I made it out to our cabins (his is about 800 yards from mine). Both are located about 40 miles from town and roads. Left Friday at about 5 below zero and got back at about 27 below. Both Imp's ran pretty well, but had to break trail all the way out and pretty rough coming back. Took a bunch of photos. Had a cow moose with two calves outside my cabin at the end of the runway towards sunset, they are poor photos, but you can see them against the sunset.

We got both Imp's back together with a good going over to make sure everything was running good, found a few things that needed to be addressed, but over all was a pretty good trip other than I made a few circles in the dark trying to find the trail, but roughwoods followed me in circles so I didnt' feel too bad...

Followed a sled dog trail for a bit on the way out, and a wolf was tracking them. Pretty good sized tracks, about two thirds the size bigger than the sled dogs paw prints. Saw a few martin run accross the trail (meaner than a weasel), roughwoods said that I ran over a ptarmigan bird, but it few off, so I guess it wasn't total "trail kill" (our version of road kill)

Northern Lights were out really nice on Saturday nite, covered the whole sky for a bit, but it gets a bit cold at sub zero temps when you are on a mission to the out house... http://www.geo.mtu.edu/weather/aurora/

After we got back, the temp is now at -37 F, where is Global Warming when you need it...

:applause: :thumb: :snow2_smi: You guys have it made!!!!! Two great running Imps and a place to go to get away and enjoy life. Your snow looks better this year than last up there. Is it better or just appears to be?

I have gone in circles on the snow machine at night when I lost the trail. It is kind of a spooky feeling to find someone else's tracks in the middle of nowhere and then realize they are yours....:yum:

You guys sure have it made! Love the stories and pictures! I gotta find a little piece of heaven somewhere soon to cure these fits of jealousy I get after reading your posts.........

Well out by the cabins there is more snow, but only about two feet, once you get about ten miles away, it goes to pretty shallow to very little in spots.

Regardless of the rough ride back, if we get a good shot of snow, there is a base to work on now and maybe the ride will be a lot better on the next trip out.

Might make a few trips on the snowmachine, lots faster and now that the trail is opened up, the snowmachine is a lot smoother ride but a lot colder....:snow2_smi:

Roughwoods cabin is really looking great, he has a lot of time invested in it and would make anyone jealous, mine is just a stick built version, where his is a log construction and pretty rustic looking with a porch and all....

wow is all i can say is it seems as if you are living the dreams of most snow cat enthusiast so keep the pics coming so we can sit back and watch someone living our dreams

I agree. I can only legally drive my cat about 4 miles away and not that far on weekends because it's a state snowmachine trail. Been working on making other trails :)

Pics??? :weneedpic I love log cabins.. Anymore their not log cabins but homes. when I was a little girl in the summer, my family would take the cattle to the mtns and we would live in our little log cabin. Memories. Well, only if he wants pics posted.. :respect:

Roughwoods cabin is still under construction and looks pretty good. He has the wood over the door and windows to keep the bears from going in and "Shopping" for food and poking around. During the construction of it, he had a black bear come in and chew up a gas can while he was working on the cabin upstairs. Bear didn't seem to be too afraid of him either, which can be a bit of trouble later on.

I took this photo this fall during hunting season, very nice three sided logs. He had to haul all them the fourty miles cross country, same as I did to build my cabin a few hundred yards away from his. The log loads put a pretty good workload on the Snowtracs, but overall they did a good job (for being Snowtracs:poke:). He is doing the inside finish work now and it should look really sharp when he is done.

I've got a similar problem: looks like legally all I can drive on is private property (with owner's permission) around here. Road ditches are OK for snowmobiles, but snowtracks are considered an off road vehicle and not permitted to run in ditches.

Snowbird, Just some info when they come across the border they fall under track laying tractors and considered agricultural...... which means you only need a slow moving vehicle sign on them, throw a small bale on back and tell them you are just feeding the deer. :thumb:

Thanks Boggie. I'll hope to have you riding shotgun with me when the Minnesota Mounties stop me with my bale of deer food. Actually I thought I might make a dozer blade for the front and explain that I'm on my way to groom a snowmobile trail.
