I grew up during the Cold War.
I was able to travel behind the Iron Curtain in the early 1970's and saw socialism for what it was. Hell I also saw western Europe for what it was and kissed the ground in the US when I returned.
President Trump expanded travel restrictions, including Venezuela and North Korea which are both failed socialist States. As the beacon of capitalism of the world, the United States is failing to allow, through legal means, an escape from an ideology that brutally ended the lives of 100+ million people in this century. The United States should be a harbor for those fleeing the repressive regime, as we are for Cuban. As with free-speech, if America could act as the symbol of freedom for these people, things may begin to change as more and more individuals flee with their families.
The President’s reasoning is related, primarily, to security concerns. The North Korean and Venezuelan governments have never held positive relations with the United States. This travel restriction comes on the heals of Donald Trump’s speech at the United Nations where he stated this about failed socialist endeavors of Venezuela. “The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented.”
To me, that is all the more reason to ease travel restrictions to allow their capitalists to flee to the USA. Heck maybe we could send them some of our socialists in an exchange program.
