Trac-Master Gearbox

I had the rear casting break on my gearbox (from an old crack) fitted a new casting and now I can't get the gear shift stick adjusted so that I can engage reverse gear. Is there any trick to this? We backed her into the shop so I know the gears are there!

Any one got any tips? Thanks.

Yes I think the housing is used on the VW vans. I need the gearshifter hiousing part # 211 301 211 G can any one help me? or even point me in the right direction. I have googled but can't find the exact part I need.

for those who have the same problem you can use a bug shift tower i used 3/8 aluiminum cut a hole inthe center than cut a big hole out of the top of the tunnel cover i moved the plate aroud till every thing led up holding it in place with sheet metal screws to test it when i got it right i bored holes at all 4 corners and bolted it down with 1/4 inch nuts and bolts it has to come up 3/8 of an inch and move to tehleft about 1/2 inch if i remember right

This just happened to me as well. The best way to fix is to get a 1963-1967 BUS nose cone AND hockey stick. You can get a new nose cone at chirico vw parts on line I'm sure there are others too but i think that chirico would have used parts as well. Here is the number to a vw tranny guy in Seattle, WA 360-307-9095 Strictly Speed. If you want to give me a call just pm me and I will give you my PH #. Hope this helps Terry.

Hi John, How is your gear box nose cone going? I just installed type 2 nose cone and hockey stick on mine, Now my problem is that hockey stick does not seem long enough. when I install gear shift cover the shaft coupler is not centered in the hole for shifter with trans in neutral, I noticed that the type 1 hockey sticks I have are longer. I did cut off the oil seal on the nose cone to match one in a photo that Ive seen. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Terry

This shows my new part installed, appears to work well, all I need is some snow now. I don’t have the part # to hand but I can find it for you if you need it. As soon as I had the correct part my problems were over. I used the old “hockey stick” with no problem. I did add a forward support to improve the stability as this gear shift arrangement seems to be a bit of an afterthought!
