Tour / cruise through the Panama Canal

Does anyone have any experience taking a tour or cruise through the Panama Canal?

I have researched the main cruise lines, and most offer 10 - 30 day cruises. I don't want anything that long. Ideally I would like a 5 - 7 day cruise, boarding the ship in Florida, go through the Canal, stop a place or two in Panama or Mexico, then either terminate the cruise in Panama or go back through the canal to Florida.

Many cruises go to places in the Caribbean that I have already been (Puerto Rico, Aruba, etc.) and I'm not interested in going to places I have already been.

So anyone have experience with a short cruise through the Panama Canal that they would recommend?

Thanks, Bob

Been though there a couple of times, but was on a boat with big guns...

Don't think it qualified as a Cruise Ship... per say...

Well if you want a neat cruise, going up the inside passage of Alaska is pretty neat trip.

Best way is to take the State Ferry system, you go the same places as the Cruise Lines, have nice cabins, but a lot cheaper, and many of the passengers are local to Alaska and can tell you a lot about what you see, where the Cruise line ships crews, aren't from here and can't tell you anything about Alaska.

Can do a short trip version as well if time is limited. Go to Seward from Washinton, catch the train to Anchorage and fly back to where ever...

Just a thought, and you can get off in the different towns and stay a few days to look around and re-board to go to the next town, and/or take your car.

Fogtender, we were in Alaska in June. Really enjoyed the trip, but next time would do it on our own like you said rather than have everything booked through Princess Cruises.

This is geared more towards photography. But, it is an AWESOME trip! It has been a while since we went(my wife has been twice, me once). It's 8 days, 8 people and three crew, on a 50' boat. Awesome boat, crew, and the food was amazing!

From the trip that my wife and I both went on. That is me kayaking one evening; that picture was featured in the '02 Deager kayak catalog.

The Delphinus does a lot of trips up there, ranging from pleasure, to photography, to naturalist trips.

I know it is not the Panama Canal, but ;) It was great the places we went, while we watched the cruise ships stop cause they could not get closer(too big). We also had a marine biologist that the crew knew, drop n underwater mic in the water whale Humpbacks were bubble feeding. He transmitted the audio to our boat. It was absolutely amazing hearing the whales like that.
