Too many Cucumbers!

I put in one 50' row of cucumbers.

Well, they're starting to come in. Between yesterday and today, I picked 50 pounds.

Well, we now have 37 quarts of pickles. That's darn near a lifetime supply for our family. Guess I'll be giving some away.

It'll have to be the next trip Greg.

They won't be ready for about 6 weeks, then I want to try one jar from each of the 3 batches to see if they're even edible. Don't want you being the Guinea Pig then saying bad things about me if they taste like crap.

Batch 1:
Made the mix with 5x the recipe. After the 1st 8qts are already in the HW bath, I realized this couple gallons of mix wasn't going to be enough so I started a 2nd batch. It was then I realized I forgot to do 5x on the spices. Damn.

Batch 2:
Add more spices and didn't have quite enough of the pre-mixed stuff. Mrs. Zoom pulled out ingredients and we topped it off.

Batch 3:
No pre-mix. Let's make our own mix. Hmmm, Montreal Steak Seasoning looks like a nice mix of spices. Lets do that and top it off with some extra Dill and Peppercorns. No idea what this will taste like...

Mrs. wages pickling lime makes the best ones ever. You were thinking way too many when you planted a 50 ft. row.The damn things keep coming and growing. I usually have so many we end up giving them away and feeding critters with them. Same for zucchini and pumpkins. They are spreading everywhere right now. Makes it hard to walk and weed when the vines are in the way.

bc, we have 2 rows, one 52 of old type and one 58 ft of burpless. Both are producing like mad. Pickles, fresh cukes, cukes to neighbors and older people not able to plant, we manage to dispose of about 80% every year. The others we take to the woods for deer feed.

Damn it. Make them stop!!!

Gave a bushel to a neighbor, 1/2 bushel to my doctor, threw some ugly ones in the compost and still had tons left. Made another 35 quarts of pickles last night and have a couple days worth of cucumber salad.

When are you in the area again?

The first couple batches came out pretty spicy. Haven't tried any from last night.

I also found out there's no 6-week wait if you do the 15 minute bath on them.

Now you know why I did not even plant any this year! Still have plenty from last year to eat. Been giving zucchini away and trying new recipes for it. Got pumpkin left from last year and a boat load on the way. I told the wife I need to give some to other older folks who don't have a garden.

To a lesser degree I'm in teh same boat. Sent the wife to the nursery to get a couple of cuke plants, and she came home with two pots...with 4 plants in each pot!!!!!! The damn things have climbed up in the tomatoes and broccoli, and are weighing these plants down with cukes. I keep giving them to my customers every day, and teh damn things still keep coming. I should can some of them on Saturday, but I have an opportunity to go walleye fishing. Guess what I chose to do?

Wonder why the widow woman down the street was eyeballing those long slender ones?????
