Tired J5 rebuild

buster

New member
Well I have spent a little more time on my project. Removed front and rear axles. Front was good the rear was bad. I have a new one being made.
Received the steel for the hull and have got it put together. Next move is to box in the front and rear with bumpers. Attached are some pictures so far. Will write again when there's more progress.

Nice job , that stick welder 's is going to get a work out by the time your project is done, might have to dump the pail more than once ! Keep up the good work ! J5 Bombardier

The steel I am using is 3/16 thick as recommended by J5 Bombardier. The old one seems to be 3/16 on the bottom but the fenders look like about 1/16. Hopefully 3/16 all around will be rugged enough. I probably won't get a chance to work on it for a couple weeks due to the holidays. I also have to paint a boat for a friend. That will give me a little more money to invest into the J5. Thanks for all the comments. This project has drawn a lot of interest at work. I have a picture of J5 Bombardier's J5 on my office wall.
Great conversation piece. Can't wait to replace it with a picture of my own creation.

Nice work, any ideas what you will do about the engine yet? My old flathead runs great except the distributor shaft wobbles and on long runs it messes up the points and i have to reset them.

i wish i could find a diesel for it. I think i will just run the flathead till it blows. Here is just some snaps of the first snowfall.

it looks better than the one we just brought back that had 15 bullet holes in it.

you do want watch you rpm's on the old flat head Chrysler's over rev them and they pop the tops right of the valves. most had the governors on them but many were taken off.

I have a 300-6 Ford engine. I will rebuild it and add a C4 tranny. Not sure how the automatic will work but I am going to give it a try. Would love to have a diesel but I own the 300.
