Hello Everyone, I have a Thiokol IMP 1401, 1964 snow cat. I bought it this summer and decided to make a restoration/custom build project. Up until this point, My Snow Cat hasn't sunk its tracks into snow in a little more then 20 years. I found this baby siting in a guys Polebarn and he was just trying to get ride of it because it was in the way. I saw it and immediately fell in love with the idea of restoring it to its former 1964 glory. I fixed the Basics, (ie. Brakes, belts, clutches) and Was able to get it running smoothly for the snow. I have a video of it riding through 12in of fresh snow that we got in Northern Pennsylvania. As I currently type, it is snowing hard and the forecast predicts a nice generous dump of around 8-16 inches! :wow:I can't wait! Hope you enjoy the little bit of video and the pictures I do have. I will be sure to et some video of the cat running in all the snow we are supposed to get for sure. Plus some really cool pictures! Enjoy!

This is what it was like when I bought it. IMG_0998.jpg

Thank you for the welcoming, I have received some help already in my search to find out exact what kind of Thiokol I have and how rare it is. I'm sure I will have many more questions especially regarding the restoration.

Thanks again,
Payton

Welcome to the Snowcat group. You have a very early Imp there, and in very good condition for the age. What's your Serial Number?

You may have already seen it, there's an article here about 1401 Imps: http://books.google.ca/books?id=lyADAAAAMBAJ&q=Imp#v=onepage&q&f=false

Thank you! From what I have been able to get her from all of the helpful information from some of the members on the forum, mine is a very early mold. It was made in 1964, and is number 17 or 13 in production line. I can't remember which number it is. Thanks for the article! I have never seen it before. I will try and get the serial number for you when I can. I have another video of it going through about 30 inches of snow if you are interested.
Thanks again,
Payton

Thanks! My Imp is definitely an earlier model based on most of the information that I have received from some of the other people on the forum. It is number 13 or 17 in production line for 1964. Can't remember which one. I will try to get you the serial number when I can. Also, Thank you for the article written on the imp. I haven't seen it before but it was nice to read. I have a video of us taking it through about 30' of fresh snow we got. Enjoy!
Thanks again,
Payton

Ok, So I was able to get the info on the serial number that was requested. The number is 017 I think that means that its the 17th one made in that year? Correct me if I'm wrong! I will be hopefully using it tomorrow with some friends and hopefully be getting some pictures and videos again. Thanks for all you help and information!
