Thiokol Imp Fuel Tank

ViaLisboa

New member
Greetings all, new owner here of a 1966 Thiokol Imp and I am going through all the components of my Imp and one that will need attention is my fuel tank that I believe is in dire need of a cleaning. With the tank out I want to do a few modifications which include installing an exterior fuel fill as mine is in the ground and potentially installing a fuel sending unit and put a gauge on the instrument cluster. Has anyone done that and any recommended parts?

My largest and burning question is whether or not the cab needs to be removed for clearance to get the tank out or if there is any tricks to getting it out. Thank you!

Many people abandon the tank and mount an auxiliary tank out back. Easy access for the sender, etc. You could probably source a used stainless one in good condition.

Thanks! I was able to get the tank out and got it cleaned up. I may use it for the remainder of the season and then come this summer get a sending unit on it.

I put this one on mine from amazon. fit and works fine.
