Greetings all, I have a question. We are putting new belts on our 252 Skidozer. Does it matter witch way one puts the bolts in? That is, threaded part of bolt and nyloc nut to the inside of track or outside?

Thx in advance

On every machine I have seen the nuts go to the inside of the tracks. I suppose this makes sence, as the threads are some what protected from damage.

On both of my Bombardier machines, the nut goes on the outside. That's how they came to me, at least.

But this is borne out by the fact that the track guides have square holes, for fitting carriage bolt heads through, but the grousers do not. Additionally, you will find that trying to tighten a nut inside of the track guide is nearly impossible for the bolt within the actual guides triangular section. You can however fit a carriage bolt in there, and the nut on the outside.

As far as thread damage, on one of my cats nearly every bolt loosened with a wrench, but on the other one I had to cut off every single bolt. I think one was used to plow a parking lot with, and must have seen salt.

the snow trac has all the nuts on the inside on a krusty it dosn't matter no body ever drives them the last the other bombadiaer products i have seen all nuts are on the inside

youu start loosing grousers along the trail you will wish you had bomalocks after a few years of snow and mud it may not matter they will break before they come apart

The tracks I just finished rebuilding had nylocks all around. I couldn't budge a single one. I'm pretty much a newbie to cats, so I don't presume to have the experiences others have had. I also cannot explain why they also held so tenaciously.

On my second cat, the Nylock nuts have broken loose okay when I've been making track repairs, but I've only found 3 which were loose after a season.

?? To be safe, I guess listen to the other experts. But from my limited experience, the nylocks have worked fine.
