The Post Office sucks

I see no reason for community post offices. They are more of a pain than they are worth. We have one that is only open from 10am to 2pm M- Fri and 10 to noon on Sat. Another is open from 8 to 4. I am in-between the two of them.
These places must only be there for those who do not work. I sure cannot make it to the post office on a work day. They are totally useless.
If they want to keep them open why not have one open early and one stay open from 3pm to 7pm. All residents would have a chance to visit one or the other. But that is to logical. Instead we have a handful of post offices all less than 10 miles away and none of them open past 4:15 in the afternoon.
Totally useless!!!!!!!!!! :soapbox:

Really Doc, 44¢ to mail a letter with in about 2 days any where in the US. Oh and a post office box works fine for mailing a letter. Just saying but then there is UPS and FedEx if you want a letter delivered quicker like over night however it will cost a lot more than 44¢.

I think only being open limited hours is kind of a waste of money. If you have to take off work to get to them it is inconvienient.

I am not complaining about the delivery. I do appreciate that service and think they do a great job. It is the way they run all the thousands of community offices that could be run better or closed down that bothers me. It is such a waste. They could have Metro post offices with extended hours within reach of all and save a fortune.

doc here's one for you i ordered a 37 oz radio part over a week ago it took 2 days to get to anchorage tracking number said it was processed through anch on monday as of friday it still hasn't made it to nome what's up did they forget the part of their name service or can it have something to do with the new tsa regulations forbidding priority mail on a passenger aircraft.imho 2 government agencys that could screw up a wet dream

Ever try calling your local post office? Around here the NY ones have friggin unlisted numbers! Look up a Pa. one and they have a listing for 5 that are reasonably close to us. My home office the gal shuts down for a 1 1/2 hr lunch break and they never deliver the weekly papers till Saturday. I know the papers are delivered to the office on Thursdays at the same time they deliver them everywhere else around here. Makes it hard to find yard sales and auction info. when it does not get here till 2 in the afternoon.

Our local branch is open until 6PM weekdays and 2PM on Saturday. That was much needed for my wife shipping to Canada. Now they offer online postage complete with customs forms to Canada. If it fits in our box I just raise the flag and the pretty little mail lady picks it up.

Seriously, Joe, when was the last time you sent a first class letter?

It takes more than 2 days to send one across town. For me to send a letter from Wisconsin to my sister in the peoples kommunist haven of Kalifornia takes 6-8 business days.

The USPS is the poster child for why government run (anything) is a bad idea.

I was mailed a 190 thousand certified check and the mailman just put it in my box out next to a busy hiway. It had the card attached ready to sign for it still on it.
kind of do it yourself.
took it to the local PO and some woman in an office said it was an computer error. She had me sign for it .didn't even ask ID but it was in my name anyway.

Your right , they should ask at least for suggestions on how to improve things.

My post office is open from 8a-5p Monday thru Friday, then Saturdays 8-noon.

It used to take a day to send something to a town very near, but now every bit of mail sent from here for some reason has to go to Toledo first??

Why do we think we need mail delivery every day? Why do we think we need mail delivered in two days? Most everything important is electronic now. Overnight packages should be the realm of UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.

Cut the costs in half today by making adjacent post offices work every other day, with the crews alternating work locations.
Mo, We, Fr, and then Tu, Thu, Sa. People and business will adjust in about a week.

Oh, and put the automated self mail machines in at all locations., and make people use them, instead of the live person. Jeez, it's a frickin letter for God's sake; you need help mailing it?
